    Hey everyone,
The previous owner had an all weather tire mounted on a set of MB wheels. The chrome is starting to peel from them and I thought it'd be a good chance to convert to black. Any recommendations to strip the chrome and paint them black? I'll likely put a clear over the base as I like the shiny vs matte look. I'd like to do this as cost-effectively as possible, but also want decent quality. Any recommendations?

    Media blasting.

Cost effective is doing it yourself.. you'll be happier paying for the service. Call and see what a local powdercoat job would cost if they strip the wheels also.

I also have the option of a set of 18" Boyd Coddingtons I bought 10 years ago. They're 5x4.5 lug pattern, 18x7, and a 5.25 backspace. Would those fit without being too wide and sticking out from the fender? What profile tire would look nice without a large gap between fender well and tire? I have an 07 2wd regular cab if it helps.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Chemical stripping is your best bet media blasting will completely destroy the wheel if they are aluminum by the time you blast off the chrome. The best way is to take them to a chromer and having them remove the chrome then re paint.
