I was stuck in a snow storm this weekend..



Whats the difference between H4 and L4?

I had no problem getting into H4...but when i tried L4...it kept beeping...

 

L4 is low range 4x4 you need to be in neutral stopped if you are in an auto or you need to push the clutch through the floorboard if you have standard before you switch to 4L.

it is generally used for off roading the final drive ratio is alot higher so the truck will go alot slower

 

so i dont need to use L4 unless im going offroading?

i have a 6spd..


i know how to get into H4 (engage clutch in neutral at a stop)

how do i get into L4 tho? (It just kept beeping...

 

4hi is fine in the snow, only use 4lo if you slide off into a ditch to get out

 

like i said push the clutch through the floorboards and you can engage 4h on the fly just make sure you are under 60mph

You can engage 4Hi without pushing the clutch in.

There's a little plastic card in your truck that should be in your visor that will explain how to use 4Hi and 4Lo.

You need to be in 4hi first which you can do while traveling down the road like already mentioned. Then you need to stop and get into neutral or press in the clutch then push the button in and rotate to 4lo. Then, roll slowly forward or back ward until the beep stops and the light goes from flashing to solid. On streets with snow you really don't need 4lo, unless maybe you want to crawl up or down a steep hill. Your max speed in 4lo is only around 5 or 10 mph...depending on what gear your in. The main thing to remember with 4wd is to never be engaged on dry pavement...and if the snow on the road goes from covered to bare and your in 4wd make sure you don't turn on the bare spots...you need slippage while in 4wd especially while making turns.
