Geeeezz. I just spent 3 hours reading all this and the comments below. I'm not going into the woods unarmed again...and I live in the jungle of the Mississippi pine belt. Behind my house to the neighbor's is about 1.5 miles of woods. I have closer neighbors on my street, but the woods behind my house cover at least 4-500 acres. Fook me running. I hope I never see any stairs back there.

at minimum I have a loaded pistol and 10rd magazine in my back pocket...typically I'll carry a shotgun or ar-15. You just never know what kind of wild animal you can run into in the woods...I havent seen anything "abnormal" though...

I havent been too far from civilization so I cant say Ive ever seen staircases out in the woods...I just see general stuff....trash, old abandoned camps, tires, car parts/bodies...nothing supernatural nor do I care to see anything demonic.

Geez these gave me some chills. Wierdest thing that happened to me was a couple of buddies and I were camping on the buffalo river in hammocks. Middle of the night heard stomping through the woods and figured it was a deer and a little while later saw what looked like a flashlight shining our way. Quickly got mine out and shined it back in that direction but saw nothing and the light was gone. There were no other campers in our area so I was freaked out a bit. Didn't sleep much.

Have any of you ever heard of a house wrecker??....Well, you can officially call me a "BJ wrecker" X2.

#1.) I just finished mountain biking in the White Mountains and come screaming up to my truck in the parking lot. I was the only vehicle in the lot, now there's only one other car and is parked closely next to mine. I jam on my brakes as I reach my truck, making a high pitched screeching sound and what do I see from the front seat of the car next to me, but the head of the woman dart up from the lap of the man, with an embarrassing look. I can't remember loading my bike and getting out of a place so fast.

#2.) I was jogging at a local reservoir trail and moving at a good clip, but also apparently too quiet, because as I approach a couple....again, I could see the woman quickly lift her head off the man's lap as I silently trotted past them, with....again, the woman having an embarrassing look on her face. :pout:

When I was in middle school, my basketball team took a camping trip to the Black Hills. One night just after sunset we heard voices coming from behind our camp away from the hiking trails. So our coach (one of the guy's dad) goes up to try and figure out what's going on. In the meantime, one of the guys on the team convinced the rest of us that it was serial killers plotting to kill us all. Eventually our coach comes back to all of us huddled in a tent with our knives out, ready to defend ourselves. Turns out it was some very ill-prepared rock climbers that were about halfway down a rock wall when it got dark....without any flashlights.

I needed that very deep belly laugh, what a great story, but must have been scary being that young and thinking a serial killer was coming for you.

I didnt take a pic but out in the woods about 6 miles from a highway and about 1-2 miles from the main dirt road. I found a freezer...I hesitated to go look at it just for the reason of seeing too many crime shows. Finally a friend of mine decided to go check it out...we walked closer and smell rotting meat...not good....looked in the door that was half opened and it was just game meat! Someones freezer went out and they just hauled it out in the middle of the woods and dumped it:frusty: The only good thing was there wasnt a body in it...

On a cold November day just about dark a guy with only sneakers came running down the trail while I was in a treestand bowhunting. He would run about 10 yards and stop and look around.

Might as well join this, I could tell a thousand but I'll just share a creepy one.

The creepy one: when I was in school, me and few friends liked to find old houses and what not to go through. One night, we decided to go to this "haunted" tressle a good ways off which turned out to just be a normal tressle. Disappointed, one buddy says his family had a membership to a hunting club a few miles away and he knew of an old cemetery in the woods on it. So with our new destination, we set out. We get there, park the truck at a gate and walk in. We find the cemetery after some searching, look around, and now bored, we decide to leave. We decide to take a long way around and cut out to a pasture as to avoid briars and such a second time. Well, we're almost to the field and suddenly, coyotes start raising hell from what seemed every direction (and anyone who's heard them knows it's an eerie sound). At this point, we're a little freaked so we start powerwalking, not wanting to run and have them possibly chase us. We get to the field and start around the patch of trees. We finally turn the last turn before the truck, and stop dead. We're a couple hundred yards from the truck and can see the lights flicking on and off. Suddenly, the coyotes are silent and we're just standing there watching. Not knowing what else to do, we start towards the truck (which is nearly new, locked, and the key is in my friends pocket), we get there and the light keeps clicking on and off till the switch is turned on. We got the hell out of there and the lights never did it again. Weird thing after was my buddy said he'd never seen or heard a coyote on that property before.

Hey guys, just wanted to throw this out there. The stories in that post as well as the ones in the "part 2" link are all works of fiction.

Reddit's "nosleep" subreddit is designed to be a place for users to tell "original stories" and everyone who comments plays along as if they were real. If you're looking for actual, nonfiction stories, check out reddit.com/r/paranormal.

Sorry to bust anyone's bubble, but just wanted to clarify that for those who were getting genuinely spooked.

Also I'll throw out my contribution to the thread, though:

A few years ago I used to hike and hog hunt on a plot of private property that was a total of about 500 acres. About 300 of it was wooded and 200 of it was open field. One night while we were set up in the field to ambush a group of pigs, we heard a wild scream come from the edge of the woods. Just one big, loud "AAAWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and nothing else, everything was dead quiet after that. Spooked the hell out of us, but we assumed it was some kind of wild cat.

A few weeks later we were hunting on the same plot of land. On this particular night we were set up at a camp in the woods where the hogs had been destroying a corn trough. We kept hearing what sounded like someone walking on the hill adjacent to us across a valley. No lights, no voices, just sounded like a steady bipedal walking. Eventually it faded away. Anyone who has ever been in the woods at night knows that something as small as an armadillo can make you eardrums rattle in dry leaves, so we just kind of dismissed it, but we'd never heard anything like that before or since.

Finally I'm going to sound a little crazy to you guys. All 3 of us who had been hunting this plot of land got on a "Finding Bigfoot" kick about a year ago. If anyone has seen the show, you've probably seen an episode where they do something called "wood knocks" to try to communicate with bigfoot. Well given how we'd had some weird stuff happen in the property we hunted on, we figured why the heck not, so we gave it a try on a few different occasions. While many times we tried it nothing happened, on 3 occasions we did hear knocks as replies to the knocks we'd made. Now I'm not saying bigfoot is real or anything, but there was some definite unexplainable and creepy things going on on that property.
