Just thought I would post this up for the folks out in Ontario.

I spent about 6 months looking for a Used Tacoma in Ontario. Toyota dealers seem to stock only the Limited or the short-bed and nothing close to what I wanted buy.

So I turned West to Alberta.. Plentiful Tacomas, better prices (Oil Patch Pricing anyone) and fewer KMs. Bought in July of 2015.

I ended up buying at 2014 Double Cab TRD Sport with 6' Bed & Tow Package; Bed mat, Bed Step, Remote Start, block heater,Toyota Sliders, 3MM paint protection,ToyotaSkid Plate,TRD Cat back exhaust, 20" XD Monster Rims and 2" Bilstein lift. The Truck was over $49,000 new in January 2014. Paid $32,000 in 2015.

    Steps
    1) Find a dealer if you are financing.. they are bound by AMVIC and will inspect when controlling the vehicle. I really like CharlesGlen Toyota for the customized Tacomas and service is much better than my local dealer.

1A) If you find a private sale this is a bit tougher because you really can't finance through a private person.

    2) Find someone to inspect the Truck locally independent of the dealer or if private seller. I used APEX inspections but would not use them again because they farmed out my order to someone locally. I would probably use http://inspectacar.ca/. You pay for each inspection and can get the Carproof included in the deal. You get tons of pictures and overall assessment. Most of these inspectors already work for Toyota doing Lease turn in inspections.

    3) Make the offer know that times are a little tough out west. Do all you paperwork... Ask for the NVIS in your contract! You need this and it's a deal breaker if you can't get it.

    4) Ship the Truck. I used http://www.tfxinternational.com/ and it cost $1800 with tax to Ontario. They ship cars for the Blue Jays, Leafs etc. High quality but be prepared to wait because they do everything carefully given the $ that rides on their trucks.

    5) Front Plate- Alberta doesn't have one. I recommend Slybrackets from TW for the front plate. The front plate also holds the MTO sticker.

    6) Take the NVIS to the MTO and register the vehicle. If you don't have it, then you need a letter from a local Toyota dealer with a bunch of weights of the truck. In Ontario all trucks are commercial vehicles and require a pay per weight for registration. Pay the difference in Provincial sales tax on the truck.

The closest deal that I could find was $33,000 for a 2013 (no warranty either) with 65,000kms.
