traction problems

SO its raining in so- cal and i love it but.. when ever i go to take off from a red light or sometimes in a turn my tires just want to spin. im not hitting the gas to hard and i think maybe its my tires there mADE BY FALCON . im not to concerened about this but i was wondering if theres any tricks to fix this. besides taking off super slow.

 

adding weight to your bed... Its a truck and its wet. Its gonna happen.

#1- not all tires are equal. Your tires may perform very well in California heat but poorly in Montana cold winter. -

#2- I rode my bike thru California last summer and I can tell you that the roads Have a lot more stones in , then here in North East. This is great for hot temperatures but very slippery on wet, rainy days.

#3- The stop sign is the place where a car leave most of the extra oil ( leaks). How you guys don't have that much rain, it accumulates. Remember an old rule -every 100 lbs that you add in your truck it all most equal 1mpg lost. Trying to take it easier may be the cheapest solution.

+1. Tires are your number one when it comes to traction. Once I switched over to Toyo Open Country AT's back in April I was blown away on how the truck handled.

 

I have BFG a/t's and about 200 Lbs of wood cabinets in my bed today, and still my right tire slips a bit when I take off from a light. Just have to take it easy until the rain stops. our whopping average 23 days of rain a year

 

I have the stock Dueler H/T tires with 21,000 miles on them....and mine are sliding a lot more now than they ever did. I have to be really really careful pulling out in the rain - especially when it's just slightly damp/mixed with oils on the road. I just about lost it one day pulling out - did a 180 and was able to save it.

I'd say, that's typically normal and tires are not created equal. Each tire can act differently as they wear.....

What air pressure are you running? If you typically run higher than 29psi (stock recommended pressure), you could lower the pressure a bit.
Adding weight would also help, but I personally don't wanna add weight because it wastes gas mileage. I'd personally rather drive 'responsibly' to relieve the problem than add weight.

 

Tires definitely have a difference. I don't think you're gonna really find any to prevent burnouts or breaking loose from stop lights. Here in mass we have a lot of divided highways where you have to merge from the median, its almost impossible to get a quick go on wet roads. I have BFG KM2's though and they definitely perform on wet roads. Any big puddles and I don't even feel them unless I'm doing 65.

 

Are you serious? I guess my Toyo Open Country AT's are working! I have my Gaylord's tonneau cover, my hockey gear, referee gear, and a heavy ass work bucket! Easily over 250 lbs. and I never get any slipping unless I punch it off course. Don't expect traction like the NHRA w/ a fresh rain, oils, and grease coming up!
