Anyone have any experience with vinyl wrapping? I just had my door handles wrapped and I'm not happy with it. First, they didn't wrap the whole handle like they were suppose to. Second, there's a good 1/4" gap around the handle which exposes the chrome underneath. Is this normal?

FYI, I did not pay for it yet as I'm obviously not satisfied. 20160229_144206.jpg20160229_144522.jpg20160229_144516.jpg20160229_144206.jpg 20160229_144522.jpg 20160229_144516.jpg

Wow .... it looks like a skunk!

I thought they would have removed the handle and do it complete.

Well I guess you didn't specify exactly what you wanted and they didn't specify exactly what they were going to do. So therefore it's both of your faults? Just tell them that that's not what you wanted and to have them re-do it.

If those door handles remove anything like the 2nd gen with Torx 30. Its shouldn't be hard to wrap entire key cylinder part.

I would have them redo it the way you want it. That does not look like it is going to last very long.

I don't really understand the purpose. Vinyl won't last very long on a high wear area like door handles anyway. Or are these to keep your truck from catching a communicable disease? Who are you giving rides to in your Taco anyway?

Love all the responses, lol. There was a communication issue between the lady that i dealt with and the actual installer. I wanted the vinyl to cover up the chrome because I hate chrome. A couple of other members have done it and I don't believe have had the same problems. To replace the handles it's over $300 and doesn't include the install. I thought for a $100 I would give it try and if it only lasted a year then so be it.

As someone who works in a sign shop and work with vinyl installs like this daily, I don't think I'd recommend getting this done. For one, like an above post stated, the door handles would get a lot of use/contact and before too long, the vinyl would probably begin to peel. Second, for something as small as a door handle with so many contours and ins and outs, it's SO hard to do a nice, clean install. If done properly, I'm sure you could get the effect you're looking for and it would actually look pretty cool. But with the movement that the handles get daily, it's just that much more likely that dirt is going to accumulate and gradually make its way to the edges and underneath the vinyl and the adhesive will just let go. Personally, I'd either look into removing the handles and painting them, or derping them.

I have been a sign guy for 15 years, have wrapped many vehicles. I always warn my clients about high wear areas on the vehicle before starting any job. Door handles are always on the list. I have done it and some have lasted, some have not. I would look for a plastic skin and paint them if you cant find your color. I have the chrome skins for my 2008, they are little worn now, but when I remove them, I'll atleast have nice black shiny door handles. Good luck.
