Is it my imagination or is there more room between the 4.0 motor and the frame ( sidewalls). It looks like I can see the sides of of my engine much better and get my hands further down into engine compartment. Whatever it is I'm liking it. I was extreme happy with the frame replacement the truck rides beautiful. The only problem so far is a spongy brake pedal. I called to make appointment and the tech said its common and will firm up in a couple days if not bring it in.

How spongy are we talking here? Does it feel like air bubbles? Or stretching out rubber lines?

Thanks for the reply. I don't know it's just that the pedal goes down further than it used to. It may have firmed a little but it's getting hard to tell because I'm getting used to the new feel. Is there a distance of travel that pedal should not exceed. Tia

I believe that there are certain specifications in the service manual for it.
I'm not sure I can really guide you much more on this.

I guess the question I would have for you, is if the brakes *start working* at the same position?
I.e., there is a dead gap between when you start pressing the brake, and when they just start to drag. If this gap is larger than it was before, then it could be due to an air bubble. If the gap is the same, but it sinks more between starting to drag and fully locked, this could indicate that the flexible hose is still setting.

I will say this; if you are in doubt at all about the brakes, bring it back.

Yeah I would say the brakes are grappling lower and then pushing further than before frame change. I'll give it a few more days and if not firmer ill make appt. thanks for help

Check rear drums the dealer removes them to swap frame( emergency brake cable systems).See how much play in shoe to drum I adjust mine to a slight drag. Then bleed again.

The Proper adjustment is to tighten the shoes until it stops the drum from rotating, then back off 18 clicks of the adjuster.

This is per the Toyota service manual.

That is also the way I was shown back in the day...

I let them know what the service manual says then they can figure it out from there.

i had a spongy pedal too and they only had to click my rear brake drums. Not sure why, since they dont mess with the drums at all, but somehow they loosened up. I was glad to know thats all it took!

At my dealer they detached the emergency brake cables at the drum.Easier than removing center console and fishing them in and out.But it is Very important that all of use double check their work.Hey It's your baby isn't it????
