    I have to get rid of my small Jeep TJ, and want a truck.. I won't be doing much OR stuff, but I'd at least like the option so I think having the 4x4 would be nice to have vs not having later on and wishing I purchased the 4x4.
    Question though, I haven't tested the 4x4 only the TRD Sport 4x2. My question is 99.9% of its use will be in 4x2 mode. Does it ride mostly the same at highway speeds? (I don't care about it's ride around town... anything rides 'nicer' than my squirrely lifted '01 TJ:)
    Is it just a reliable as the 4x2?

    I have a Sport 4x4 and the ride on highway is VERY comfortable. However if you do a lot of highway I would recommend the air dam underneath the front bumper. Makes a HUGE difference.

    The answer to all of these are yes - I owned a TJ, two actually and one got rid of due to Death wobble and no matter how many parts I threw at it - around 1800 in front suspensions, alignmetns, and tire balances it never got better. The other one I got rid of as I just get rid of cars like crazy till I met my wife. We now have a 14 Sahara JK Unlimited and it's a different animal than the TJ and better in all ways.

    4x4 and 4x2 if it's the pre-runner are the same suspensions - just lacking a bit ofweight up front, a transfer case, and cv's in the front. So its down on weight a bit but has the stance and prowess of the 4x4 and you can get the TRD OffRoad 2x4 with the rear locker. Makes it just capable enough to really get yourself into trouble and get in the hole a little deeper;-)

    Both will be reliable, and both will drive better than the TJ - you will feel refreshed after a long drive and be able to hear a conversation without having to wait a few minutes;-)

    IMO - get the 4x4 better to have it and you have had a Jeep for a long time, you will do more off-roading than you think in the new vehicle more than likely.

    If you are even questioning whether or not to get a 4x, get it. You don't want to behave any regrets down the road. I doubt anyone here have ever regretted getting a 4x4.

    Hey buddy. If youre in the DC area, use True car. I picked up a Sport 4wd for $32,ish. It had a bunch of shit on it I didnt want that they ended up giving me. Tysons Corner wont go below $34,000. I went to Lustine... watch them though because they have a bad rep.

    On the highway, there will be no difference on how it rides. On the highway, 99.9% of the time you will be in 4x2 mode, even if you have 4x4 capabilities.

    If you can afford 4x4, do it.

    Well... Sort of. The 4x4 does have a front diff, axles, and CV joints. There is more rotating mass and weight at the front of the vehicle. Some may notice it, most may not.

    My 2016 TRD access cab 4X4 is amazing on how well it rides with the stock tires and suspension I think allot of it has to do with the taller side walls in the tires as opposed to the sport model.
