Boating season is just around the corner and it's time to get shopping. Our tandem kayak is a beast at 90 lbs, so we usually haul it on top of our sailboat when we take the boats on the road for a weekend.

There may be 1-2 times a season that we take the kayak by itself. The Thule racks look awesome, but they're stupid expensive for the 2 times a year that I'm going to move a 16' tandem kayak or a 20' extension ladder.

Am I dreaming? Is there such a thing as a sub $300 bed rack?

Yup. Mine was like $80 from home depot online. Holds my kayak fine, it's probably 70 lbs1210151214.jpg

That's exactly what I need. How does it mount?

Gotta drill holes in the bed rails, it bolts on there...maybe not what you want to do to a 2015

Definitely not a fan of drilling, but I wonder if I could get away with welding on tabs and connecting it to the bed rails on the 2nd gen like the Thule does.

If you can spend $500, you can get one that's strong enough to support a tank, and has lots of versatility.

    That would be @LunaticConcepts

I had a customer come by the shop Saturday for a bed rack and a tailgate cap. It was the first time I actually saw the bed rack installed on a truck. It is unbelievably strong.

I wouldn't know about that. But if it would help I can get some pictures of where it bolts to the truck and maybe you can see if that would work or no.
