Kuat Sherpa hitch rack. Smaller that some of their others and folds up/down for storage or better access to the bed.

I also appear to have a preference for gray...

My mtb tandem fit great like this on the back of my Expedition - not so much on my new Taco. Need a new plan....

Otherwise, my regular setup is a 1up hitch mounted rack for my mtbs.

    Stock and loving it
that's illegal in my state. You cannot make your vehicle any wider than stock. What are the laws in your state?

New guy here, currently driving a T100 with 6 ft bed but thinking about a '16 DCSB. My standard cargo is two 29-ers with front wheels removed, and fork mounted to a board across the floor of the bed with Kuat thru-axle mounts. Overall length of the longer bike this way is 58" - in other words, with the rear tire against the inside front wall of the bed (or tailgate) to the front of the bars/levers/cables is 58". Question: would this fit in a 5' bed? Yes, I know the spec is 60.3" bed length but I'd love to get a real measurement taking into account bed ribs, etc or better yet, hear from someone who hauls their bikes this way with tailgate up. I'd rather not mount the forks to the top of the front wall of the bed, as I like them facing backwards and sitting lower. Thanks in advance.

I have the longbed, so I'm not going to be able to measure for you, but I think it's going to be really close. Good luck.

What about a hitch mounted carrier instead

I too have a long bed version, but due to my tonneau I just prop my rear bike wheels up on the tail gate and then use the D rings to bungie down the down so it doesn't bounce. It slides a little side to side, but nothing worth losing sleep over.

Not sure if that will provide you any piece of mind.

Where I live and how I travel, I'm reluctant to keep bikes outside and visible. I know lots of people do, but I'd rather get a long bed than have bikes get covered in muck, and hanging 3' off the back for everyone to see - or hit. And I really don't want a DCLB, not sure I can get away with an Access Cab. Hence, my interest in a DCSB.

Thanks - but my ultimate goal is to be able to fit the bikes under a shell with closed lift gate, specifically the new AT Habitat, which has a vertical lift gate and is wider than a typical shell (I have a similar FlipPac now, and the bikes fit within the "envelope" of the shell even if I have my forks right up against the tailgate). I guess before I drop $35+K on a truck, I should ride over to the dealer and actually put my bike in the back of a DCSB. Might even test drive one ... then I might not even need to pedal home :)

I've got buddies that throw their bikes in the back of small hatchbacks. You won't have any trouble with putting it in the bed with a shell.

My truck doesn't have the front rail system like yours. Did yours come that way or did you add that rail? Mine has them on both sides, but not in the front up against the cab... Wondering if it should?

3rd Gen didn't come with the front rail like the 2nd Gen but you can order the part along with endcaps and the bike mounts to install for yourself.

Bakflip G2. Had some issues which I think are worked out. If you know or search the Bakflip threads for the Gen 3 the you will be aware. So far so good for me though.
