Let me explain this.it was in 2015 in October I think I order my truck .my truck was built in November 4th 2015 and this is the only color the guy could deliver. because first off it was built as I ordered idk why he gave me a hard time maybe that what Toyota said they could deliver at that time but other then that I have no clue why I could not order black when I order it it wasn't even built so I guess we should ask Toyota I'll tell you what I have to go to the dealer I'm going to push the issue of why at that time I could not get my first color pick only my third choice would be available we shall see what they tell me.

Best as I understand it Toyota makes Tacoma's in 2 MFG plants. Total they can build 170,000 trucks or so per year in the 2 plants combined if everything goes as planned. That's 14,166 a month to divide among-st all the dealers that Toyota sells to. Twice a month dealers place orders for the trucks they want to purchase. It takes 2 months to produce the truck the dealer orders. Dealers are allowed a certain allocation depending on their annual sales. If the dealer sold allot last year they get to buy more trucks than a small dealer is allowed to buy. Dealers can't just buy more trucks because they want them. So you go into a dealer to buy a truck. The truck he has he bought from Toyota 2 months ago and it just arrived. You don't want the red, white or blue one he has. You also don't want the black, white and silver ones he has on order in the pipeline. You want the quicksand one that is access cab 4x4 TRD Offroad. He cant sell you one that he doesn't have and isn't in his pipeline. He can order the truck for you and you wait until it is allocated to him and scheduled to be run when they set up to run that model on the production line. When and if he is allowed allocation. In the mean time he has to pay for the trucks he has received and the payments on the loan for the trucks he already has on order. There is no incentive to sell to you anything he doesn't have or isn't on the way. In the mean time Toyota has built a bunch of extra trucks that are double cab, short bed 2wd in white, silver, black the most common and popular colors they know that they can sell. If you want a special truck that we call unicorns you have to under stand that they will only be produced in very limited amounts. You get on the list and hope you can wait long enough to get one. If your dealer is smart he may have speculated and ordered a white TRD Offroad 4x4 and may be a red one too. So that is the only trucks he can sell you.

Last November my dealer had 16 Special order Tacoma's in his pipeline. He had no Tacoma's coming in to sell on the sales floor. For a month he had no trucks to sell except the carry overs from the month before. He kept one and put dealer plates on it and used it for test drives only. When my truck came in February the Access cab Trd 4x4 in Quicksand it was the first one in this model they had seen. All the sales men were trying to sell it out from under me. Now they have several 4 door, 2wd short beds around. TRD is still slim pickings.

Ordering a truck isn't a buffet line. Your dealer orders from the menu of what they make and have it sent to your dealer. Accessories you can add, special packages come with the model you order. You can't mix and match parts of the special packages you want to buy. You are only aiming an allocation to your dealer. Nothing is being built especially for you.
As i said this is my understanding of what is really happening.

i know my truck was built in November 2015 as door sticker says 11/15. How did you determine the exact day? Is it coded in the VIN?
