If you get a leak after switching it means you already had an issue. I switched at 160k with no issues.

Correct, aka conventional oil.

 

I use Mobil 1 and change at 5k but I'm pretty sure @gnyla goes 10k between changes and his legendary beast has over 400k miles on the motor. So I'm thinking you and I are a bit paranoid

 

Use high mileage full synthetic and change every 5k miles. I like Mobil 1 but other brands are just as good. Also, stick with a good oil filter like oem, Bosch, or Purolator One. Stay away from Fram.
