Quick intro since I'm new around here... Just bought my first Tacoma a few weeks ago - 2012 DCSB SR5 v6 w/20k miles on it. I live in the salt belt and have obvious concern about all the frame rust I've been reading about. Right now the frame looks fine, but given the winters in Northern Minnesota, I want it to stay that way as long as possible. So I'm considering having an underbody protector done.

Anyhow, searching the forum for 'frame rust' results in a ton of threads, but with all the reading I've done, it's not 100% clear which years are affected by the frame rust issue. Does it effect all Gen 2's? Or just certain years?

I'm pretty sure Toyotas frame rust fix only affected 2005-2009 for the second gen. So far the later years have been okay, but only time will tell. Though iirc they changed frame manufacturers for 2010

    Thanks Worm.
As I said, since it looks good now, I think it's worthwhile protecting it to keep it that way. I was just wondering how close an eye I need to keep on it. Thanks again for the info.

No sense in taking chances. By all reports around here, the dealer applied stuff is pretty much hokum.

It's definitely worth while, 100%. I bought my 06 used and didn't have the chance. Mine isn't that bad though and i Just got the corrosion protection put on by Toyota's recall thing. Hopefully the frame will last another 10-15 years!

I'm considering the "Under Body Protector" using Waxoyl from this place near my town:

I may also do the "Rust Inhibitor" depending on what additional protection it provides. They quoted me $300 for both.

Well welcome.Frame rust is normal. But 2005 2 2008 have a issue like the 2001 2 2004 .Excessive rust at wielded joints and where parts added to frame,They lost corrison protection.Clean your frame seal prime the weld joints then protect your full frame.A lot of products por 15 chassis saver etc...
