ok so I just just took my 2016 TRD Sport into dealer for first service because at 4600 miles service light came on. So I bought Mobil 1 OW-20 for oil change and bought 7 quarts because with tow package it says 6.2 quarts for 3.5 engine. I pick truck up from dealer and they say it's all good and they did their 27 point inspection! So I get home and find 1 full quart in truck still not open. So now I'm curious because I told them about trans fluid and u-joints, so I crawl under truck and sure as shit still have paint on fittings and I could tell no grease was put in any of them. Then reading sheet from dealer they said left license plate light was out? WTF?!?! I called dealership and asked if bulbs are under warranty and the said yes for first 12 months and I asked why the hell wasn't it changed and why wasn't grease fittings greased?!? Service manager said he will handle it! Now I have to drive it back to dealership on Monday to get light changed and truck greased.
Moral of story is us this Forum to your advantage and make sure stuff is getting done!

True that! Only reason I took it in was first oil change was free and I wanted to see what they would say about trans fluid! I will have them change the bulb, but I'll grease the truck myself.

That sucks! My 5000 mile is coming up soon. I've always had good luck with this dealer, bought my first Tacoma (2011) there. I'm already on guard since I crawled under it yesterday and greased it. All fittings took at least 5 pumps from a standard grease gun. I haven't had any issues with my transmission, so I have hopes that it's okay. Going in for a spinal operation Tuesday (sucks to get old) so won't be able to crawl underneath for awhile.

I don't want to give you an ulcer, but it's not probable that they checked your tranny fliud. They don't get into that because it takes too long..... you'd have to pay extra for it.

Oh I know! I'm not having issues or symptoms of it. I just know that my U-joints haven't been greased and wanted my concern documented so if trans does start having issues down road I can get a free extended warranty from Toyota.

    I hear ya there.

Years ago, I drove a company car and the company used Jiffy Lube to change the oil in the fleet vehicles. At Jiffy Lube, I asked to have the ball joints greased and they said yes we ALWAYS do that.

... I'm in their ridiculous 'waiting room' with the window right there so I can see the car. Not even an attempt to grease the front suspension..... Bill paying time comes around and I told the manager I didn't see them grease it and he was very apologetic :jerkoff:and told the kids to grease the front end.

Long story short, you can't fully trust a service shop.

Don't know about that Rock. By the truck being under warrenty i would let them perform the Maintenance If folks perform their own maintence and screw something up the dealer can come back and say the warrenty does not cover your screw up. All I am saying is you need to be very careful with doing your own maintenance when the truck is under warrenty. Some people are good at this others are not

This has got to be the worse car maintenance company in the states. I stopped using them 4 years ago. The level of incompentance blows you away.
Then again when you are paying people minimum wage to work on your car then what can you expect. I tell people to find you a trustworthy mechanic and treat him well.

Lol reminds me of a time years ago when I took my Bronco to an oil change place like that! Kid couldn't figure out why it wasn't showing full and finally he looked under Bronco and seen he forgot to put drain plug back in. Thankfully he checked and I didn't drive away!

Wait, so you bought 7 quarts of oil from the store and then took it to the dealer for them to change it?

Yes because I wanted Mobil 1 and I get military discount from Pep Boys. This will be only time they will service truck and I didn't want whatever they use in it. Point is need to check their work wherever you go. I was told greasing U joints was part of their 27 point inspection. Guess not!

You are correct in that instance but if you did your maintenance work and screwed something up they can come back and say due to your screw up we are not liable

I guess it comes down to how well of a mechanic you are.

While that is correct, they can however challenge you. In the case of an early engine failure, they can say you did not use the recommended oil, now if you have receipts of oil purchased you have a leg to stand on. If you have some bearing failure or U-joint issue, they can say we can´t prove they were properly maintained(although it seem they aren´t getting properly maintained using the dealer), but it could happen. You as a consumer do have the right to perform your own maintenance, but you also have to responsibility of proving proper maintenance was completed. Now Toyota seems to be easier to work with, or least have been in the past, but individual dealerships can be a pain in the a$$ when it comes to warranty work.
