    Im looking into options for VHF radio's. Im not after anything specific but the radio itself should be as small as possible without sacrificing nor causing over heating problems.

    I ran a Kenwood TM 641 (144/220) in my truck for several years. I fitted it right below the radio and used thru-the-glass antennas. I had no problems. but I removed the radio a few years ago due to lack of use. (Yes, it's for sale.)
