Question. I've put in an order with Pelfreybilt for a full set up. Full hoop aluminum plate bumper, skids, and hi clearence rear bumper with swingout. I'm installing an OME hi limit suspension but The total weight of the front bumper, IFS skid, and mid skid is 119 pounds. I'm curious: are 886 coils too much/overkill with the Aluminum setup? I won't be adding a winch for quite some time. The suspension is coming from a friend and he has 886's as part of the coilover. Should I slap on/replace with 885s or perhaps an icon 650# spring with this aluminum armor setup? Thank you in advance for any helpful advice/opinions.

Note: I also have sliders that at 100# for the pair and will be adding an aluminum rear transfer skid as well.

I've seen a few of your OME posts, OZ. A very knowledgeable man. What approach would you suggest in my situation?

Given that you will add a winch at some point , the weight of all your items , and you want 3" , I would lean towards the 886's I think

Fantastic. If you don't mind one more moment of your time: My Pelfrey Armor will be available in 14 weeks. I'm stalling the OME suspension next week. I came across some gently used Icon 650# springs a couple days ago. Would you say it's a wise idea to install the Icon 650# springs until my armor comes in, yes? The ride will be overly miserable with 886's for 14 weeks without armor thus risking a chipped tooth?

I don't think thd 650# spring will ride any softer

I'm such a newbie. So, I might as well leave the 886's and save me the trouble of going back and forth from 886's (how the coilovers are currently setup) to Icon 650 and back again to 886's in 14 weeks when my aluminum armor comes in?

Yeah , just saying the spring rate of the 886's and the 650# spring you are talking about are basically the same spring rate so the ride is unlikely to be substantially softer

    Wrecked!
Although with such little weight added. You will be fine with the #650 springs granite there the same length. I not sure if they are different. But If there the same length you probably won't notice any differents between the two. I'm running a complety different set up but my springs are 620lb and I have all steel with winch and the ride is rough.

Another reason why I kept getting tripped up on decision making. I'm OME and Dakar leafs 100% but since I'm going full aluminum armor and only adding 119 lbs up front before the winch (unsure when the winch will come) I keep battling which springs to go with.

    120lbs bumper + 100lbs sliders + future winch correct ?

and you want to end up with 2 1/2 - 3" lift , yes ?

Yeah, I'm just going to keep the 886's strapped on and deal with the rough ride until my armor is ready. Gonna be a headbanging good time in Death Valley (headed there with @Mach375 and a few others in 4 weeks) but se la vie.

    *C'est la vie

if you are considering a lighter spring for a softer ride , I would go to an 887 . You would likely not end up at 3" though

I'll give the 886's a trial run at the added but not super significant weight (pre winch) and dial it in from there if I have to flip springs. Trying to find that aluminum middle grounds ya know? Troubleshooting. haha
