Soon To Be Build

The name is Chicken and i am a owner of a 2007 Access Cab v6 Prerunner 2wd that my father passed on to me after his passing 12-29-2014, and just recently have been interested in looking into a new suspension setup that will offer me the ability to mount a Demello Offroad Front Bumper. Now the details about the truck it currently has 230k Miles on it with most of the oem parts and is my daily driver in Southern Cali. I Do no plan to off-road heavily maybe very minor trailing that doesn't involve much rock crawling or anything of the nature. Now it seems right from the bat that the truck is gonna be for pure looks (Mall Crawler) . . . . for the most part yes. However, being a long time Tacoma World lurker i decided to build something that my father had wanted in his name.

So i had done some research about the Demello Front Bumper, and Old Man EMU setup that runs the 886 springs an it seemed to peek my interest. However, it may not be a solid choice for various factors.

Now this is where i need your guys help i would love any info about any suggested parts and items that will hopefully make this truck into what i want for my father.
(Note i do use the search bar, just would like comments on this so i can keep track of things and make a checklist.)

No strict budget atm but looking to keep it relatively under 4k

Thank you for the welcome brother! hopefully i can entertain you with a flying chicken (my truck) one day.

 

Now let's say I go down this route . . . Which stage kit do you suppose will be adequate? I'm guessing the stage 1 kit without the UCA would run around 2k from the get go? However since I practically live down the street of demello and icon I'm hoping to get somewhat of a glimpse and insight on the build.

 

I will be honest if money wasn't an issue I would have a down payment ready for that 2017 special edition Tacoma. Now I would say the stage 2 kit is ideally what I'm looking for because as my father said do it right the first time, instead of hacking around. However it would seem that that leaves me with around 2k give or take depending on how much I can get the suspension setup for. Now it either comes down to upgrading the tires and wheels first to fit that new suspension or stick with 265 r16 (not worn yet) and get the front bumper. Using pretty much all of my savings for this build to get what my pops really wanted.

 

Have been researching a tad bit more on these suspension kits and it seems that possibly running a 5100 setup with the 885 or 887 springs and a rear leaf pack would be a reasonable setup since i am not offroading that often. Your take on this @memario1214 ?

Just found out about spindles for my 2wd tacoma . . . oh boy a whole other can of worms have been opened!

 

Do what your dad would have been really proud of, save that money and do upgrades in the future. Don't use all your savings for this. He'd be proud that you held on to the cash and waited. Just my $.02

 

I totally agree with you. I think i should rephrased it to more of i have a spending budget for the Tacoma that i would like to spend on it. However, i still have money in the savings for a future build that he wanted . . . a "Long Travel Setup"!

So the build now is more of a precursor to what he wants in a way.

 

Alight let the games begin with the mod bug biting me almost instantly! So goal for this truck as of right now (Short Term) is to lift it above 2 inches (More now due to Spindles) so that i can clear 285 75 r16 and hopefully place a front bumper be it a tube style or like i mentioned before the Demello baja style ones (most likely tube now with the skid). At this point this is going to be a start from a stock Chicken Coupe (Tacoma) to a slightly more enhanced Chicken Coupe (Tacoma) and then eventually a long term thread of becoming a long travel build!

 

So basically a daily mall crawler to hopefully a competent project long travel Prerunner. @memario1214

For the rear is there any other option besides the one you posted like the, all pro standard pack? Shocks i was thinking of going Billstein 5100 all around or have the extended rear ones since the front would be high right off the bat.

Now the question is when buying the buying the billies for the front and rear i know im able to run the stock springs with the spindles which is fine for a start if im correct. Now when it comes to the rear adding the All-Pro in the back will increase the lift height while improving ride performance? Yet, when i get the billies be it the 5100 or 5150 will i need to full extended them at their max settings on the rear to allow it to reach the lower parts or am i not thinking it correctly ?

Also the 5150s just have long travel if am correct?

 

Im starting to get the big picture now after hearing you mention it again. Okay so now that i understand it riding like a tank on road but potential increase off road it seems to me that there will be trade offs no matter what Unless i went with the add a leaf which would improve on-road but decrease off-road potential correct? Either or at this point interesting. Since you run the old man emu setup do you like that tank like feel on road or is it just a Pain overall for dailying.
