Thought I'd check out a Tacoma forum. I have an '07 PreRunner TRD Off Road 2WD that I bought new in '07. It has 200k miles on it and I thought I'd quit daily driving it and use it to see some off road sites here in Arizona and surrounding areas. Figured this may be the best venue to get some ideas of do's and don'ts. Being 62, I'm not looking for the wild ride. Just want to do some minor to moderate off road trails. Thought the best place to get started may be with tires. Start slow and work my way up. Any recommendations?

    Welcome!

Grab a cold one, sit back and relax. There's a TON of good information here, just don't be afraid to use the search function a lot, and do it creatively.

There's just so much to learn here....and so much to get pissed off at! It's the Internet...take it easy and assume nothing, and you'll be just fine.

    Fucking look it up
Tires are a huge much maybe 1 size up from stock with some decent all terrains and possible little suspension upgrader to fix the comfort of your ride. Lots of info just do your research and ask lots of questions

Welcome to the fold. There are quite a few people on here that do great write-ups/how to's. zscott,Tacodane,Crom,DCSBFTMFW,Doording,DVexile. I've learned more by reading there posts on what works and doesn't than any question that I could of asked so far. Due to the fact that I'm relatively new to the EXPO side of truck use. Again welcome.

Don't. It will ride like a tank. Unless you like that sort of beating

I'm looking into Billstein 5100's front/back with Dakar Leaf springs. Better ride quality than OME from what I've read.

Welcome you old dude. I can say that because I'll be 61 in July. Haha!

Seriously, I've only been a member here for a few months but have already learned a lot. There are threads specific to your vehicle and desired mods. Have fun!

Here's one thing I have learned... Be honest with yourself about how you are going to use the truck. If it will be a heavy offroader, tow frequently, or you fill the bed often go get yourself a leaf pack. If you do any of these items occasionally and just want the lift aspect to it get an AAL. Much more forgiving when unloaded and will still give you the look you desire.

Let's not blow this guy's thread up... Make a new one and tag me in it. We can chat all day. Well later today since I will be getting off work soon and not back until this evening. Much of it will come down to budget and how you will use the vehicle to be honest.

Some great thoughts and I appreciate the responses. I expect to learn a lot plus I have some of my own ideas. The SW has a lot of ghost towns and they, for obvious reasons, are not on maintained roads. I'm not looking for the bone jarring ride but something that will moderately absorb some trail issues. Not looking to make a rock climber either. Budget was mentioned. Budget implies you have money. o_O I want to start simple and mod as I go. I figure tires are a good starting point. Something that can be used on the hiway but won't leave me stranded the first time I hit a rock or cactus. I also have to keep in mind that even tho it is a TRD Off Road, it is 2wd.
