So the moral of the story is you can't drive your Subaru across a lake.

The day started out innocently enough, just turning around, and I swung out too wide, hit the mud and straight into the drink. Made it worse trying to get out. Hindsight says I should've just backed up. My friend couldn't pull me out, nor could passing SUVs, so in the end I called a wrecker from Penrose. He gave me a good discount off what he quoted me because "I wasn't really stuck".

The worst part was the Subaru itself. I was informed the rear wheels weren't even turning and the engine would rev past 2000 rpms, legendary all wheel drive my ass.

Thanks again for the advice y'all gave, now I know, snow is ok, muddy roads ok, lakes no bueno.

Shit man, well at least you got out eventually... I am surprised that you couldn't get out though

have you driven it since? was it going past 2k after you got out?

I'd driven on muddy roads that had about 6" of mud on them and never had an issue. After I get out, the Forester drove just fine. No lights or anything, cruised home 30 miles at highway speeds.

It seemed the computer was limiting the engine to 2000 rpms even with traction control off. I'll have to look into it

It doesn't look as bad as I pictured, so while it sucks.
It should be an easy pull, unlike some stories going around of specialty tow truck's needed @$300 just to go look.

    Best of luck to you!
