I just went to a bigger 5 channel amp with alpine type R speakers and components- wow! sounds amazing. Really shows how crappy and cheap the stk speakers are. Now debating if i should get a sub? Any suggestions on boxes- looking a 8 or 10

I upgraded everything and added amps. That being said the biggest sound improving difference I noticed was adding Infinity Kappa tweeters. I'm sure most people will suggest a component set, but I'm not sure how well the stock radio will drive a set of components.

    Good luck.

I've herd good things about infinity - what did that run you? I just emailed the shop to see how much that would cost me?

I installed them myself and bought the tweeters from Amazon. I gathered parts for probably 8 months before I swapped everything out. I'd buy one thing here, one thing there until I had it all. They are $56.95 right now on Amazon. It says 13 left in stock, but discontinued by the manufacturer. It almost makes me want to get another set now in case one of mine ever dies...

I would add an amp before speakers as well.

In my 2011 (non JBL), the factory headunit was the bottleneck. The speakers sound dramatically better and don't seem under-powered with the Kenwood DDX271 that I added.

In my experience, a factory headunit with no amp can't effectively drive aftermarket speakers, so you'll see virtually no improvement.

I do have a little Sound Ordnance sub under my driver's seat as well. It's an 8" w/ the amp integrated and was very inexpensive. I'm not bass-crazy so it does the job more than well enough for me.

Go with amp and speakers one without the other won't give the best results

It's a great lil upgrade for $60.00. I was talking to my son this morning and he was saying that on his '16 stereo, he doesn't see a lot of difference when he has it turned up between 1 and 40. But, he says it's a world of difference between 40-60. And, if you do other upgrades, I'm sure these wouldn't be wasted. I'm doing these in my truck in the next few weeks. Not sure why I haven't done them sooner.

I've got one of those Sound Ordnance subs in my Access-cab as well; while I'd like to have a bit larger sub I didn't want to give up the space. I was honestly surprised it does as well as it does and for most of my listening.

I hope you like the tweeters. I always feel nervous when recommending something to someone I haven't met. Posting a pic just because. [IMG]

I love the JBL system and my Kenwood HU, but feelI should upgrade the door speakers now. Can I use the JBL amp, or should I get a new amp for the four door speakers? Sorry for my ignorance :)

These are what I'm thinking for the front doors:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1OQ0HQZ5A5YEQ

And already bought these for the rear (or get another pair for the front, too):
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003KN2TF8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I'm trying to figure out what size cutout diameter I need to fit those, or if there's another place to get the adapters. Do I also need these wiring harnesses?
    http://*********.com/car-audio-vide...r-adapter-front-rear-door-installation-kit-2/

For reference, this is my headunit:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I0FXH20?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

If it matters, I listen mostly to NOFX, drum & bass, classic rock, bluegrass, Die Antweird and old school gangster sh** LOL

Thanks for any advice you can offer! I'm debating doing the install myself or going to Best Buy since they did my headunit.

I'm not 100% sure - but you might want to upgrade amp so you can pump bigger speakers.

Good choice on the ARC Audio amp. They make great stuff. I have an old Phoenix Gold 500x2 amp and an Image Dynamics 10" sub i'm trying to figure out what to do with. Glad to hear you can really do some work with the stock HU. I'm not a fan of aftermarket HU's.

Thanks man! Yeah i had no prior knowledge of arc audio- i just thought the shop was pushing on me which turns out my shop really know his stuff. Did a lot of research and joined a car audio forum just to get familiar with knowledge/etc since im a newbie to car audio stuff. All the guys on the forum said arc audio is a really good . Good thing i didnt listen to my friends who i thought were experts - they told me to stick with kicker/alpine name brands.

I did a lot of HW before my install- and thanks to the tacomaworld famila- got really good audio suggestions with the tweeters and sub!! I too am not a fan of changing out the headunit. Wanted to keep the clean stk look- plus keep the thieves away (even tho i have limo tint all around) ! the stk head unit has all i need- touch screen/bluetooth .

That's great you're a 'do it right, do it once' kind of guy. Same here. I remember my 10" ID hit almost as hard and sounded way better than a lot of my friends 12" crappy brand subs. Unfortunately I'm not even sure Image Dynamics is still around today. I've always liked ARC Audio amps and Crystal speakers.
