Has anybody installed a tablet or PC based inventory system for pantry?

We have so much food in our house it's very difficult to keep track of what we have and what we are running low on.
It would be cool to see everything you have and make a list of what you need all on the same screen, and print out the list.

Also be able to program your most common recipes so you can just choose a recipe, choose a serving size and it automatically deducts those ingredients in that amount from you inventory.

While I don't use anything like that, all you would have to do is modify an existing point of sale app that tracks inventory. It's accuracy would be dependent on you entering every transaction.

At a previous job out POS system would track inventory and let you know what your daily stock order is or your monthly reorder, depending on what inventory parameters you establish. The goods I sold were not perishable, therefore I didn't have to be concerned with expiration dates.

Sounds like a complex solution for a fairly simple problem.

Like the effort made in the US to create a 'space pen' that would be useable in zero gravity.

The Ruskies just used a pencil and moved on to real problems.

our solution: we shop weekly. if it looks like it will run out before the next time we go grocery shopping, it goes on the list for that week. we plan our dinners out for the entire week. as we run through our meal recipes, we check to see if we have enough for that recipe. it would be difficult to track the usage for each recipe IMO.

We use an app called "OurGroceries".

As soon as anybody notices that we're low on something, or out of something, they add it to the list on the app, and it updates on everyone's phones. So whoever is at the store next, gets whatever is on the list and deletes the item.

    First world problems....

I've been playing around with those grocery list apps trying to find one that I like for us to use...that way whenever either of us are at the store we know what we need to get without having to look at a physical list at home.
