This morning I finished the blown Head Gasket replacement the PO of my vehicle had hidden for me. I wanted to do the same as a total rebuild and prime the oil system before starting by cranking till oil pressure showed. To my bewilderment I could not find or see the any oil pressure indicator in the display. Neither when cranking or even just power-ON. Does it only show when losing pressure when running? I thought it should show when just power-ON without running as a system check? Should I be looking at the sender or is the oil-lamp display in the dash a light bulb that I need to check? Any advice appreciated.

    TIA,
    Mike

When you turn the ignition on the oil pressure LED should be on. Looks like an oil can. It will go off when the pressure is up. The pressure switch is normally closed with no pressure which grounds the LED turning it on. If you want to check to see if the LED works do this:

Turn the ignition on, without starting the engine.

Disconnect the wire going to the Oil Pressure Switch. ( Should be Green with a black stripe ) Yours may be a different color.

Touch this wire to ground, the Low Oil Pressure LED should come on with this wire grounded. If it does the LED is fine and the pressure switch is defective.

Send me to face the corner wearing a tall pointy hat. My bad! Discovered this evening. When I was re-hanging the harness I only inserted but did not seat to click all connectors till I was satisfied all runs were in the correct place. Then I pushed to seat and lock all. Except one! There it dangled loose unseen behind the alternator. Pushed it in, ignition on, and the just below the speedo appeared the little dripping can.

    False alarm! Sorry!
