Hit up a baby store and get some hands on. Bybybaby is nice for that, but $$$

The start of your research is always the hardest.

Most 'big' companies have travel systems now. Meaning there is a base installed in the car, then the rear facing infant seat carrier. That carrier can be removed from the base station and attached to a stroller. It makes moving a sleeping baby much easier.

As far as reviews, stick with the big names and you'll be good. Each system has it's pros and cons. Some maybe harder to fit than others. That is why I suggest going to the store and trying out each system to see what works best FOR YOU. Don't go to Toy's R us either... Go to an actual baby supply store that specializes in new born stuff. The amount of knowledge those guys will have will surpass what your minimum wage Toy's R Us guy would know..

I mentioned before--check your birthing hospital for baby seat classes. Most have them. Take it and take lots of notes.. When you get your seat and system, take everything to the CHP office and let them install for you and notice how tight the seat needs to be.

For me, I recommend the B-Agile system because it's what I used and it worked great for us.

I've got the key fit 30 for our 7week old. Still waiting on my truck, how much room can I expect to be left up front?

While the Tacoma does not allow it. There are cars that have latch brackets in the middle seat. That is ALWAYS the preferred position of a rear facing seat. We actually bought a car specifically for that feature.

Go test fit the Britax B-Agile system -- if it fits good in your car, just buy it.

I did all the research for you already. haha

My wife can sit up there OK and she is 5'6" A 6-footer would not have so much fun. What we do when we are all together is we put his seat in the middle rear, then my wife sits in the back passenger side so she can tend to him, and we move forward and fold down the front passenger seat, which in an SR5 folds down level and provides a hard "work" surface, which is also freaking awesome for diaper changes, it turns out.

With the child seat in the middle, the front passenger seat could go back farther, but maneuvering the child seat in and out can be a bit trickier.

when you say "we move forward and fold down the front passenger seat and it becomes level", there's enough room to completely fold the front seat down to level making a table?

I have two kids in car seats still, I recommend either Recaro or Britax. Both brands have better ratings than most. They are a bit more pricey but when it comes to the kids safety I am ok with spending a little more. My wife researched the shit out of seats before we purchased and that was the route we ended up going and bought two of each brand. Recaros in her truck since they ride in hers more than mine and Britaxes in mine.

I had mine in the middle using the latch buckles on my 2012. It was a pain getting it there, but it worked. For the '16, all
The info starts at page 55.

I really hope you didn't use the latch system with a baby seat in the middle. It's simply not designed for that. The latch system is designed to be a very specific distance from the 2 buckles. If you use a latch from both the driver and passenger side, you're creating a larger buckle angle, and in case of an accident the seat is not as secure.

On the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas. There are 4 total latch brackets on the rear seat. You can position a seat on either the passenger or driver side only. If you want to use the middle seat for a car/baby seat, you need to use the shoulder belts for restraining the seat.

On some cars. There are six (6) latch brackets on the rear seats allowing you to put a baby seat using latch on either the driver, passenger, or middle seat.

I meant the anchor point in the middle, sorry for the confusion.

Britax boulevard click tight. They may not be cheap but it will last from your newborn up until age 4. Rear facing for the newborn and then flips around.

Be careful with recaro....I was really interested in their convertible seat model ( I forget which one) until I found a consumer reports rating showing they broke loose more times than not in some crash scenarios
