I have a frenchie and a boston. I had a couple of bostons previously but lost them in the split. Bostons are amazing dogs. Growing up I always had big dogs, German Shepherds and Rotts. But the Bostons have won me over. When I get a bigger yard some day, I'll probably get another Rott, but until then, Bostons are awesome.

Bostons, as said before, are great dogs. They can be on the hyper side when they get riled up, but my were/are mostly couch potatoes unless they see a tennis ball. Jesus, the tennis ball. They are so fixated on tennis balls it is absurd. Did I mention they are lunatics for tennis balls?

And I concur on all the food/gas issues. Both the Frenchie and the BT's can clear a room. But, on the right food, they aren't too bad. They still have enough of a reputation that I can blame any smell on them with virtual impunity. I like feeding Bil-Jac Frozen dog food and add in some other good kibble to help with cleaning their teeth. They will destroy toys, so I only get the ones that dont have any stuffing. And watch out for tennis balls.

As far as gas, our old American Bulldog (96 lbs.) can seriously clear a room. Can Boston's be that bad? My wife is considering one as our next pooch because the old guy is terminally ill with an enlarged heart. We want to downsize with a more portable pup. Since you are savvy on this breed, can I ask a couple questions? How well do they travel? how much exercise a day do they need? Do you recommend a crate when leaving them at home for maybe 5 hours?

never had ours on a flight or anything like that but 2-3 hours in a car is no issue. as for exercise ours gets 2-3 walks a day. can easily do a 1.5 hour/6km//3-4 mile walk, loves to swim, etc. honestly. they'll go all day non-stop and then crash at night. as for crating ours has the run of the house. as long as they're housebroken you should be ok.

    I'll chime in as well.

Gas can be room clearing for sure, but that is in large part due to diet. Some say that it is all the air they gulp because of the short muzzle, but air doesn't really stink. I have found it is more dependent upon food selection. Some foods just don't digest well, but it is individually dependent.

Mine have all traveled very well. 5 hour car rides have not been a problem, so long as, like kids, they get it out before getting in the car. I have had a couple that stayed in the crate all day with no issues, when I lived in an apartment. But mine now have no problem with the doggy door and thus have free run of the house during the day. They are hard to house train at first, but if they are already good, then you shouldn't have any issues. I just have to make sure to pick up stuff that they will chew on, like batting gloves and socks for some reason.

Interesting yet highly useful information here. I have a Pitbull that also mixed with Terrier (APBT). He tends to sneeze, reverse sneeze, cough like crazy, and has insane mucous discharge almost daily. Great to know this info even though I already had a relative idea about why he was this way. Still awesome to know! :)

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Question is, was I talking the dog or wife?

Boston Terriers are best dogs hands down!
Meet Turbo, he’s one a one year old AKC purebred BT, he’s loving, energetic, smart, great listener, trainable, and loves to exercise. I’ll keep it simple these little guys are not meant for a lazy person. Crate training, and descipline is a must I live in a small one bedroom condon I’m up at 6:30 daily rain or shine on a one hour walk before work. He’s left alone for a 9 hours daily usually come back home to a perfect home. In between days I trade his toys with others to keep him interested, honestly he’s a happy dog. We bring him everywhere. Planning on getting a second.

Part of these little guys having health issues & being destructive is due to poor parenting: Over feeding, cheap food, no walks, no training, no walk training, or thrown to the backyard in which they learn to be protective and overly aware & to don’t welcome strangers.

Do it. I have one. He is 8 years old and it has been a blast. Very minimal expense, easy to care for, energetic and loving. Mine does not bark much and hates the cold. He wears a doggy sweater in the winter. I have a 4 year old daughter and my pup is great with her.

Wow that’s a good looking Boston. They’re great with kids ahh failed to mention. My mom babysits after my nieces/nephews(total of 5) and to be honest I can show up and take leash off without any worries. What people keep forgetting mentioning is, Boston Terriers are great at avoiding all sorts of troubles. When kids chase mine he runs away to find me to save him, when he’s approached by an aggressive dog he run and funny part is 90% of the time he’ll outrun any dog. When a dog is teasing him he’ll sit and just look at him like “are you stupid, fuck off”
You cannot go wrong if with a BT if you’re an active person

Highly recommend pet insurance. We have had great experience with both Trupanion and Healthy Paws. Trupanion pays claims faster but both are really good. Both Boston's and Frenchies are awesome and have great personalities.

Joshua do you ever take your boston to a Boston meet up? I'm a regular at both East bay boston terrier & San Francisco's.
