I have a set of brand new 6 month old tires on a 2002 Malibu with less then 1000 miles on them but it now has a blown engine so it is very soon going to be heading to the salvage yard.

I just purchased a low mileage 2007 corolla to replace it with but it needs a full set of tires.

according to a tire height difference chart I found:

    the Malibu tires are 215/60/15 = 25.2/8.5/r15

    the Carolla tires are 195/65/15 = 25.7/7.7/r15

there is no issue with tire height rubbing since they will be 1/2" shorter then oem, but what are the odds there might be side clearance rubbing issues since they are going to be roughly 3/4" wider? that's roughly 3/8" more width of tire sticking out on each side vs the 195 tires.

im thinking there shouldn't be any chance of rubbing issues with such a small change in width but when it comes to side to side clearance I don't know how tight those are.

am I right to assume there should be no concern of rubbing on anything at full turn in either direction?

this is going to be a major cluster as well as being semi expensive to be swapping 8 tires around between 2 cars using jack stands and 4 ways to unmounts and remount 8 tires in total plus balance 4 of them so I don't have the luxury of saying "just try it and see" so im looking for some experienced tire swap guys to chime in and give me a thumbs up or down on the chances of this being an issue free swap.

I do realize it likely wont ride or handle as well as with the narrower tires but saving a full set of new tires is worth a little loss in handling IMHO.

The difference is negligible, not enough to cause any issues.

hoping for more comments like that

Im also guessing the speedo might be like 1 mph off if at all, but im hoping that's the only negative

tire swap went simple and easy, no clearance problems anywhere

lol yep, niece actually but im like a dad and have to be the savior for all problems.

well ya know when you got an unsolvable cooling issue so you tell them to check the water every two days "just in case" because it needs a quart or two of water every few days but you can never find out why?

well she decided it was better to just wait until the little temp light tells her it needs water .

then of course lets forget my proper refill instructions of her having engine running and watching it for 5 minutes before closing hood so your sure all air has been replaced with water. well that's just too much trouble, her way of fill it and go is much easier. :annoyed:

she filled the empty water bottle with engine off, replaced cap, closed hood, got on interstate doing 80mph because now she is late for college classes 70 miles away.

bout 30 minutes later I get a call the light came on and it stopped running so its on side of road and even though she keeps filling the bottle with water like she is supposed to, it keeps running empty again o_O

so off I go for roadside rescue and sure enough its pouring out the bottom of the block as fast as you fill the reservoir bottle lol. :bananadead:

I don't know if you have ever seen the cooling system and how it functions on a 2002 Malibu but just to replace the thermostat the intake and exhaust manifolds, and I think the fuel rail too, needs to be remove to even access it  and from what I understand under the fuel rail on top of engine is a known place for water leaks you never see or know exist because they never run out, they dry up or get blown clear while driving making them a nightmare to find. them year Malibu are pure junk and I wouldn't wish that nightmare of engineering mistakes on anyone. I swear, just for shits and giggles you should look into it, its funny as hell to see such a nightmare as long as its not your own vehicle
