Sorry for a stupid question, but I don't have a bike to put in back of my truck to try out currently. I am planning to to purchase a 27.5 size med mountain bike and wanted to make sure i can fit it back of my short bed locked with the tonneau on. Most likely what is going to happen is after work I will ride, but i need it to be under the tonneau since my vehicle is my business vehicle its parked everywhere on the streets unattended. For the weekend I plan to buy a tailgate pad.

With a SB I'd want to try it, but with my LB it's not a problem, and mine is a 2G

IIRC isn't your 3G bed a bit deeper than the 2Gs were? That will help you.

Depending on the shape of your bars, you 'might' have to loosen them for a bit of turn to get it down lower.

Of course you know to load it derailer up. It might also be helpful to pop off the downside pedal.

I have a soft cover trifold on mine (which gives an inch or so more space than hard) and the front wheel needs to be removed to get the bike to lay flat and not be noticeable under the cover. I'm sure you'll need to do the same with a hard or soft cover.

I am able to fit my 29er in my short bed with the cover down (factory). I just have to lay it down diagonally. It is a tight squeeze but doable. A 27 should be even easier.

Hmm...interesting. I may need to whack my handle bars down a bit, lol.

If you take the wheel off the front, you should be able to turn the handle bars and slide it under.

The problem I would have is driving around all day like that. Seems like a great way to break or bend your components.

Just buy a rack with a lock. Or buy one and get a separate lock.

I leave the wheel on. I just have to turn the handlebar slightly. For reference I ride a 2013 Trek X-caliber hardtail

    enough to have fun
This depends on wheel size or bar width. Take the front wheel off or losses the stem to make it fit. Don't cut your bars! Wider bars ( as long as they fit you) are great for riding!

I take my front wheels off and it fits just fine.
