I bought a 1975 Toyota pickup new and loved it. It had the venerable 22 R Engine. At the time I just liked the truck. It would be a long time before Toyota gained the reputation that it has. They were just a small well designed truck. My Dad warned that Japanese steel would rust out quickly. My Dad later became a big Toyota fan too. That's the reason I'm on this site in a way. Before my Dad passed away he bought a 1996 Toyota Pickup. It is the extended cab with a V6 3.4 litre. He drove it to coffee and to do minor chores and it was his vehicle at the time he passed away. My Mom asked me a couple of years ago if I wanted my dad's truck. Of course I did! I flew to Arizona and drove it back to Alabama. I drove it for a couple of years and one day a couple of weeks ago I was driving it when a piston rod broke! A piece of the rod hit the pan and made a small hole. I thought that something on the road hit it so I took the pan off and found pieces of the rod! I'm looking for a good used engine or I will attempt to rebuild this one. I haven't done that since I was in High School. I have the engine out. Any help from anyone would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Charles
P.S. I am on my 5th Toyota since the 75 truck. I have 2 Prius cars and previously drove Celias and Camry and the car that looked like Camry I can't remember the name! CRESSIDA!

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Good luck with the rebuild, or engine replacement. Either is a solid option if the truck is otherwise solid. Many "crate" engines available with about 30-40k on them for far less than a rebuild costs. Of course a rebuild can be a longer lasting option if done right. Let us know how we can help , if you run into questions as you move forward - but overall that initial decision is yours.
