    Has any one out there had any success using a AEM Air Filter Vs a paper filter ? I have read several posts that dispute the advantages of performance type filters. Does anyone know of any tests or data that proves these filters improve hp and gives better gas mileage?

    I thought the benefit of these filters was the convenience of cleaning them and using them again?

    Totally agree, best filter is paper nothing filters better. That's why factory uses them.

    So you think it best to replace with dealer filter or paper filter from lets say Fram etc.

    so in your opinion is WIX better than Fram etc. and how many miles can you get out of that filter?

    ATV trail dents, many, many lights, 4-6 beer cans.
    Might as well go OEM.
    I've never had aftermarket in my Taco, swapped my brothers oiled K&N out of his 93 Pathy trying to diagnose a cold start/idle issue and his MAF was covered in black crap though, not exactly confidence inspiring.

    Wix or OEM, lasts 30,000 miles, but I do almost zero miles on dirt roads.

    Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
    Using OEM on this truck.
    My previous 2005 had TRD cold air intake. Change from TRD oiled filter to AFE dry saw average mpg go up by 1 mpg. (average calculated over 12 tanks before and after). Tube on intake had very minor residue with oiled filter but was clean whenever I checked the dry filter.

    Yeah here in TN the back roads are dusty, so I play the "safe than sorry". I usually change mine out on every fifth oil change, unless I've been off-roading a bunch.

    I had a drop-in K&N in my T100. It wasn't really all that wonderful to have it cleanable/re-usable. Messy, hard to tell how much oil was enough. I won't do it again. When my T100's CEL came on my mechanic immediately blamed the filter. And he did have to clean up the sensors downstream of the filter once.

    Maybe the 3.4 liter motors in T100's and Gen1's had a little more breathing trouble than our 4.0's--in the T100 I also had a catback, and at least that seemed to help. But I had no empirical data. May have just been that it sounded more powerful. Everything I've heard about the 4.0 is that breathing is not a problem, with little to gain in terms of power for low-restriction intake or catbacks/low restriction exhaust. I love the way mine runs box stock, and I'm getting super good mileage so I am not fixing anything unbroken at this time. YMMV.
