best drying method to avoid swirls

I thought the same thing as you when I first tried the Ice spray wax. I was amazed by the shine. I also used it on everything for about 6 months.

And then I tried Duragloss Aquawax. And the shine is like 10x that of the turtle wax ice. It's like Ice on steroids. And it also lasts much longer. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed!

 

Where do you get Duragloss?

 

My winter washings dont include drying. My feeling is any leftover water spots are better than the salt that was on there.

This is the ONLY way to not cause at least some fine scratching while drying. With that said, there are things you should put into practice to greatly reduce the swirling effect. Most important thing is to thoroughly rinse the car before, and during the wash. You want to get as much dust and particles off the paint as humanly possible. Use a quality mit and KEEP IT CLEAN between washes. The mit should also be replaced every now and again. Using the two bucket method with a grit guard helps quite a bit as well. Use a quality MF towel for drying and apply only as much pressure as needed. Do not use swirling motions ever! Only lightly rub front to back and back to front. The idea here is that while fine scratching is inevitable, they will be far less noticeable if they all go in a line and don't criss cross or swirl together. you almost have to be in just the right light from the right angle to see them. Lastly, if you drop your towel during the process, do not continue to use it until you have had a chance to wash it.

 

I just got 6 "gold plush" microfiber drying towels from autogeek. Haven't washed and used them yet, but they look like they'll do just fine.

For reference, they are much more plush than the [smaller] yellow Costco MF towels (which I use as multipurpose cleaning towels). The AG gold plush won't break the bank and look like they'll be just fine for my DD Tacoma.

 

I use an auto blower

 

I always dry in clockwise circles. If swirls develope I simply change to a counter clockwise rotation until the swirls go back away.

but in the video you can see that 1 towel has 8 sides and you do a single pass you never introduce dirt to the next panel. No scratches...plus the waterless products whether it's Meguiars or another brande they have lubricants that attracts dirt and protects the paint from scratches and some products has a wax as well. No water used except for the distilled water you use to mix the D115 to the spray bottle.

All the absorber or similar products will scratch paint. It's the same cloth or drying material and you keep on rubbing onto the next panel. With the method I explained above, you use up the 8 sides and then you get another clean MF towel.

I bought a large size (gallon I think) of duragloss. It's a nice product... some times if the truck is super dirty like don't wash for 2 months I break out the duraglos and then use the spray cannon and soak the whole vehicle..then I still break up the towel with 8 sides and clean...I spray D115 inbetween.

Just my opinion but i find this to be the best method for drying my truck ... it absorbs water like crazy, just keep wringing out and drying. Leaves NO streaks

You have a silver truck, you probably don't even see your scratches and swirl marks. Get a black color vehicle and then you know why it's important to use proper wash techniques if you care about paint defects...if you don't... it's not a problem.
