TRD off road questions..

Just like pre-2016 models, A-Trac can be turned off if you want to spin the tires, by not turning on MTS.
Please report back as I have not driven a 2016 MTS truck.

 

Does the auto LSD work similar to ATRAC for the rear wheels in 4wd on all models?

Auto LSD, as a name, only works in 2 wheel drive.

why is it so confusing

 

In 4 low, there is no VSC, no Trac either. Only A-Trac/ MTS.
So, the front and rear tires should spin if they lose traction and A-Trac or locker is not on.

 

No, as it is a limited slip vs. a no slip system. Auto LSD in H2 is called Trac Off in H4.

 

So in 4L and 4H on Sport, sr, sr5 the front diff is completely open and the rear diff is controlled by a limited slip module? or is the rear open too in 4?

 

4L is 'open diff' only, except for the Off Road TRD when the A-TRAC (MTS) or Rear Locker is engaged.
4H has 3 modes: TRAC, TRAC OFF, VSC OFF in ALL Tacomas (front and back tires):
TRAC= Limited slip with engine regulation
TRAC OFF= Limited slip without regulation (ie. stronger)
VSC OFF= Open Diffs., no stability control, no traction control.

 

Because of the lack of any traction control on the front tires in the non-Off Road Tacomas, H4 has more ability to get unstuck... and that is why the 4-Lo Trac Mod is so popular. It makes the TRAC system work in L4 by fooling the computer into thinking it is still in H4.
TRAC is limited slip, and not as strong as A-TRAC, but better than the open diff only in L4

 

You are a wealth of information. TRAC uses ABS to control slip correct? Just like A-TRAC has in the past?

 

Is there a 4-Lo Trac Mod for the 2016's yet. Anyone try a Yellow Wire Mod on a 2016 non OR model?

 

Thank you... understand I am no tech, I just like to organize confusing things so they are easier to understand and use. Trac and A-TRAC both use the brakes and engine regulation to some degree. The Off Road 4WD TRDs have a hydraulic brake booster for the A-TRAC to be able to force the tires to "lock" the other Tacomas have only a vacuum brake booster. I am not sure how much better TRAC is in the Off Road than the non-Off Road trucks, if at all?

Anyone ever figure this out?

 

I don't think anyone wants to void their warranty.
