I sure hope it does. I'm not the type that gives up. I've been reading up on lemon laws, if I repeatedly take it to the dealer for an abnormal condition and they try but can't fix it, then there should be some recourse. I just don't think it's right to be paying for a $32k truck that isn't right.

Ok guys, so its been a grueling few months of stealership let downs trying to get this thing resolved. But finally when I was at my wits end, I e-mailed the GM of the dealer explaining my dissatisfaction with his service department on this one. Well guess what, later that day the service DIRECTOR for the dealership called. I had spoken with the service manager, while he was nice, he was useless in solving this issue. Well the service director told me he had been with Toyota for ~19yrs and that due to his dealership being one of the big boys that he worked with the engineering department that solves defects. Due to the large number of vehicles his dealership sees, he ends up seeing more of the defects, due to this he works directly with engineering on reporting problems and finding solutions.

The first thing he said to me was, "A lot of Tacomas have that noise, and the '15s seem to be the worst". He said that as of a week or two ago Toyota stopped selling the replacement door seals because they are very aware that there is an issue and that replacing the seals doesnt work. What he said after that I really liked, he told me they are working on a new door seal that is thicker and firmer, and that the engineers have a 2015 Tacoma they are using as their test vehicle. He told me that once the new seals are released that myself and everyone with this issue would be receiving a new set. Then he told me the best news of all. He told me they had a temporary fix that would work until the new seals are released.

What they did was, they took 7/16" vacuum hose or windshield washer tubing (either works) and they pulled the seal that is on the door back and ran the rubber tubing behind the seal. They started at the top corner of the trailing edge of the door and run it all the way across the top and down to just below where the side mirror is on the door. Doing this makes the door seal stick out further, and makes it harder to compress while closing the door.

We are having some really bad storms in Houston last night and today, normally with the wind blowing like it is, my truck would be howling like crazy going down the road, but not any more, it's actually quieter inside the cab than it has ever been!!

I am at work currently, but I will post pictures of the tubing and where it is ran when I get home tonight.

Can one of the mods make this a sticky or something like that, I know that after conducting a quick search there are several threads like this, and a lot of unhappy Tacoma owners dealing with this noise. I would like to make sure everyone sees this one, as I know for me it made me a lot happier driving my truck now.

Glad to hear this! I've managed to muffle mine a bit by adding filler pieces but I'd be interested to see exactly what they did to yours!

    Thanks!

Wow, you must have had the noise really bad to go through all this work. I think I only heard it twice in the past year. I actually like when it happens - it makes me laugh.

I just posted in another thread regarding this noise. My '14 does the same thing everyone here has stated. Whistle noise on the freeway on a windy day at 70-ish mph. I cut a piece of 1/4" drain/drip (irrigation) hose and jammed it in between the two flaps of weather stripping at the top of the driver and passenger doors. I did this yesterday so I'll report back my findings after some time on the road.

So far my 2105 (6,000) miles hasn't done this. I don't do a lot of highway driving but have been doing 70 mph in crosswinds without noise. Glad to hear there is a fix in the works.

As you can see from the photos, they pulled the seal back away from the door, used some 2 sided sticky foam tape to get the hose to stick. They then started near the top of the trailing edge of the door, went all the way across the top of the door, and down the leading edge almost to the top door hinge with the tape and tube, then put my door seal back in place. I have absolutely no squealing now, no noise, none, gone. I am a happy camper, now I can patiently await the new and "improved" door seals to be released.

Told you guys that not getting this fixed wasn't an option for me. I am the type of person who is kind, yet persistent when I have an issue that I need corrected. I've found over the years that getting mad and yelling at people gets you nowhere, writing bad reviews on YELP with no facts and only badmouthing a business will get you nowhere. Rather, document everything, the persons name, the date & time, build a strong case with a lot of facts not accusations. Then, once you have tried everything, take all of the documentation you have collected and put it in the form of a kind, yet well worded e-mail or letter, send it to the top person at the company and ask to have the situation corrected. In my experience 99% of the time you will find a manager that can fix things, or that will help you get to the right person to correct whatever the situation may be. In my case I was lucky to finally find a manager that had worked with Toyota engineering and was able to not only fix my truck, but made me a lot happier customer in the end.

Good luck guys, if you try this fix and it works, please drop a comment and let me know that it worked, just curious to see how many this helps.

I did this but instead of the seal on the door I did the seal on the cab that meets the door. Going to try adding to the door side like shown here this weekend. Thank you for being persistent and finding a solution

I don't get a kazoo any high pitched noise, just excessive wind noise where it sounds like my window is rolled down a bit when I'm above 45mph. I'll report back if this improves the sound.

Amazing thread! Thank you Jerymir2000 (and your service manager) for doing the homework. Recently had a few days of rough wind and had no success trying to troubleshoot it on my recently purchased 2015 DCSB. Very aggravating. I'll be heading to the dealership soon and will let you know how it goes.

    +1

Well the good news for you is this, not only did it get rid of the kazoo noise, but my truck is MUCH quieter overall, especially at highway speed.

Now lets get this thread to where everyone sees it, make it a sticky or whatever the proper term is!

Yeah really bad, I heard it every time I drove anywhere. My commute to work is ~30miles each way, mostly highway, so I heard it for about an hour a day for about 6 months, drove me absolutely nuts! I also drive from Houston to Dallas and Back every other weekend to visit family, it got to the point that I would tape the seam around my drivers door with masking tape and crawl in from the passenger side before heading out on those long drives just so I wouldnt hear the noise lol!

Pics are to up close to get a good idea, you need to get back more with the camera. Im confused as to what actually you did or maybe I need to read all 4 pages to understand

I tried taking some pics further back, but it was too hard to see what was done that way too. Tell ya what, when I get home, I will snap a few more pics, I will also get a pic of the outside of the door and use paint to draw some lines showing where the tubing is ran, it sounds more complex than it really is.

Here's my solution. Added the drain/drip irrigation piping in between the two 'flaps' of the weather stripping above the door. This forces the weatherstripping to get sandwiched more in between the door and cab:

I was wrong on the tubing size, it's 7/16" OD tubing, hopefully no one has ran out and bought the wrong size tubing already. In the second picture I drew a white line on the top area of the door down to the front, the line represents where the tubing is ran. Basically pull back the seal on the outlined area of the door, put some 2 sided foam tape in there to hold the tube in place and then sandwich the tube in there between the door frame and the door seal.
