Dang, this thread has blown up since I was on here last!

Ramon mentioned I was looking for a multi-mode t-case. I think I found one, but just in case if falls through, you guys should keep your eyes open for me :) Has to be out of a 99-00 limited, nothing else will work. Ready to have her back up and running soon!

So here's my story of why I'm planning on getting 4x4 for my next vehicle, be it 4Runner or Tacoma.
I really do off roading, both the challenges and the beautiful sights to be seen that you can't see here in the city. I have gotten stuck once before, but honestly if I had a locker I would've been fine. Although I do take my tacoma places many other 2wds have gotten stuck and I troop on! A 4x4 would allow me to worry so much less about getting stuck and allow me to take on more trails as the trails I can take on now are limited and I'm growing bored.
Also I was looking at a photo I took of the stars out at Ocotillo Wells, I love beautiful sights like that and would love the opportunity to see more of that and show it to friends and family. Thus a 4Door 4x4 would work for me perfectly! I'm not much of a camping person but damn camping is worth it for beautiful sights like that!
@dtaco06 put me onto the idea of a 3rd gen 4runner since it's definately within my budget with money left over for mods. So I'm doing some research and weighing my options
Wheeling wise I'm not looking into getting into full on crawling but definitely will build it up a little bit, maybe some 285s and a lift to start off with some sliders and a front bumper down the line. I'm always up for a project, but this vehicle will be my daily driver so I can't have it breaking on me
    Would appreciate any input

5th gen... Buy it and you will win.

I don't have a ton of advice. I'm planning on buying a 1st gen tacoma someday and using it as a beater rock crawler and SAS it.

For now, if you want the coolest sight and you have a 4x2, you can make it here easily and I highly recommend it if you ever go to AZ. I was in 2wd the whole drive out there.

Passenger side officially done. Hand tightened. In about 500 miles, I'll go back under and re-tighten

I need a handheld. Even with the flexible extension it was a pain to grease my UCA's and driveshaft at times.
