I'm sure there is a post around here somewhere about favorite movies but I also wanted to add directors into the mix as the director / writer tends to be the driving force behind the movies made (excluding big box office productions)

That said... I have to say that Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, and the Coen Bro's are probably my "personal" favorites. The movies that I tend to gravitate toward are very much "dialogue" driven movies.

Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy, Red State, are a few of my favorite movies by Kevin Smith. I like the approach that he spins in his movies and considering the fact that Clerks was made on a $28k budget and it turned out so well speaks volumes for his talent as a film writer / director. I also appreciate the fact that he is willing to take risks with his movies and throws them out there for audience consumption and then is willing to do a Q&A after the screening about what people thought about his flick. Tusk (although absurd) was a movie I didn't particularly care for (although the acting was good) but the odd thing about that movie was it came from a podcast were he and Scott Mosier were just sitting around brainstorming about a crazy story out of England and it morphed into this crazy movie. I like a director that is willing to take chances and just see what happens.

Quentin Tarantino... Well, not much to say as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are two of my all time favorite movies. Pulp Fiction probably has the best dialogue ever written into a movie. I can quote the entire movie. Not sure what that says about me?

Coen Bro's? Can't think of many that I haven't liked. O Brother where art thou, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, etc... I just enjoy their style of film making. Makes you think and laugh at the same time. I'm still fucked up about the ending of No Country for Old Men but it is still a amazing movie.

So... with all that said (and I seriously doubt there will be many responses to this thread) What's your favorite and why?

John Carpenter has done at least 4 of my favorite movies of all time. He gets me.

Guy Ritchie for Snatch and Lock Stock and two smoking barrels are awesome. I'm a fan of JJ Abrams too.

Yeah... Pretty much anything JJ Abrams touches is gold. I can't wait for Star Wars.

Wow! You can almost guess your age by who your favorite directors are.
