I can offer some insight on the design differences between the LT and non-LT sizes of the WILDPEAK A/T3W.
For the 16" sizes, you are correct, this particular size is only available in an LT LRE version (LT265/75R16 LRE 123S). We offer the OE size also in non-LT (265/70R16 SL 112T) at this time.
For the 17" sizes, we offer both the LT265/70R17 LRE 121S and the 265/70R17 SL 115T.

The tread patterns between the LT and non-LT of the WILDPEAK A/T3W are very slight. The main difference is the tread depth on the LT is greater to achieve the same wear performance as the non-LT in more severe applications (higher loads, torque, etc). I'm attaching a picture of the LT vs Non-LT to re-assure there is basically no difference between the LT and Non-LT. Notice only the slight shoulder block design variation.

From my investigation for tires which have C load rating the common sizes for a Tacoma (265/75r16, 265/70r17, 275/70r17, 285/75r16, 285/70r17), these tires have C load rating in the following sizes:

    BFGoodrich KO2: 265/70r17
    Goodyear Duratrac: 265/75r16 265/70r17
    Toyo AT II: 265/75r16
    Cooper Discoverer AT3: 265/75r16 265/70r17 275/70r17
    Kumho AT51: 275/70r17

These tires have no C load rated options:

    Cooper Discovery ST MAXX
    Falken Wildpeak AT3W
    Hankook Dynapro ATM
    Nitto Grappler
    General Grabber AT2

Does the full wild peak siping run to full depth of tread like the General at2. This is important when you start wearing them down. Have not seen a pair to stick a knife tip in to see yet.

I ran a set of Kelly safari's on my 2000 Tacoma for last 3.5 years before moving up to my '16 now. Solid tire. Got a little noisy and slightly unevenly worn towards end of my tenure with them but I probably didn't rotate enough for even wear in all honesty. My buddy that bough my old truck still has them on and they still have several thousand miles left on them from the looks. Will say I never got a flat with them on and the last time I got service with them on my old truck I had my mechanic pull all metal bits and shit out of them and see if I needed to patch anything. Had a handful of nails and junk from job sites that he got out of tread with not so much as a hint of a leak from any of it. I loved these tires and they were half the price of bfgs when I bought them.

hmm.. was it the Kelly TSR's? Did you have any experience with them in snow/ice conditions being in Montana? Half the time the siping is very shallow in the lugs and make them look more capable but really add fuck all.

Yup they were TSR's. I am actually in Missouri but did have them on for several snow/ice events (probably up to 12" deep) over last few years and never had an issue. Granted I never took them in to anything nearly as hairy as you probably get in Vancouver but they were a very solid tire from my experience. Compared to the BFG AT's I had on my old jeep for years I would take the Kelly's and save a couple hundred bucks any day at this point.

I had 3 set sets of the msr which are now discontinued which were great. They pop up in worn on ebay now and again. Had one set of the tsr on another tacoma and was pleased but only lasted 20000. Will say in wv where I grew up and go back to hunt and fish all the time alot oF guys run the Kelly tsr and general at2. So for snow we get our fair share and people do not raid the g stores for milk. They just fo when out. Sun, rain and snow. I have 3/4 tread generals at2 mounted on sprt rims with sensors I can put on my new one but going to craigslist them I believe. Want a 255/75 17 this time around but little options for a tire I like. Probably go with the the general at2 again even if not that size.

How does the General AT2 ride in a 265/75/16?

Have to watch what I say but to be honest they are in my opinion the superior on the market for both worlds. They ride great not too heavy at 4lb less then the ko never had a flat and great wear with little road noise even when worn out. I am at a horse show or would Posta pic if them worn t 2/32 tread and still have full across siping. General has good customer support too. Plus they are a fraction of the cost to bgf. Have a 3/4 tread pair hwre in northern va

I had 265 75 16 load e on my 05. Way to heavy emergency buy while on a trip. I would get the c's. The i see guys running e's are nuts. 59 lbs tires stiff and big mpg loss. Airing down is good for rock crawlers but not recreational off roaders. But the mall crawlers love them for some weird reason.

Yea, my brother has KO2 E load on his F150, and it rides pretty nice actually. He did lose about 1-2 mpg, but the ride wasn't really affected all that much. You can tell the tires are stiffer, but it still has a nice comfy truck ride to it... but that's a lot heavier of a truck, and it can actually make use of the load rating so there is a bit of justification with the stiffer rating.

For the Tacoma I know there is the argument that E rating gives stiffer sidewalls, and you can air down more for off roading, or that the stiffer sidewall means more puncture resistance ... but I'm okay sacrificing that bit of performance for better on-road characteristics of the C-load with the lighter weight Tacoma. From what I can tell the E load definitely has more of an impact on the Tacoma's ride quality and mpg than something like a heavier F150.

I want a solid AT with stellar winter performance, because winter sucks here in Michigan.

I'm still considering the Wildpeak AT3W, but it would have to be the non-LT tire ... I'm waiting for some feedback/reviews of the non-LT version, but I have the feeling I'm just going to have to try it out if I want to find out for myself.

I really like the look and performance of the Duratrac which seems like one of the better C-load tires, but I'm hesitant because of durability and long-term wear characteristic reports being less than stellar. However, I've always wanted to try a set because we had the badass MTR Kevlar on our HMMWV in the Army, and those things were just absolutely stellar off-road ... the Duratrac reminds me a lot of how that MTR looked, and if they don't hold up and last 50k miles, fuck it, that just means I get to try some other tires, right? lol ...

There just aren't enough 16" 265/75-16 C-load options out there, and especially those with the snowflake rating ... I know a lot of the other AT's still have had good reviews for winter conditions, but if I'm going to step into an AT and there are snowflake rated options out there, then I just don't see the point of not getting one of those since it snows so much where I am ...

This summer I'm just going to roll the factory Goodyears unless one of them pops while I'm offroading, and as the year progresses I'll see how the reviews pan out for some of these options :)

I know I'm just going to have to pull the trigger and find out for myself though lol ...

I agree 100 percent with your thoughts. I wish general would put a inset every other lug like the new ko. Hopefully wild peak will hit back on my supervisor depth question. That will be the deciding point and 8f I want to push another 4-5 lbs per tire compared to the at2. The duration is around 40 lbs to I believe and at a 255 75 so I can get my rpms down. I like the taller leaner tire. They just go.

I seem to remember in one of those reviews I read that the sipes are deep on the Wildpeak AT3W, but I'm not sure if it goes all the way down.
