What about the difference in partnumbers between 2010 and 2012.

Yes mirror installed. Just like Tunngavik there is no temp only compass. There is no signal on the yellow wire up in the console harness either which makes no sense to me given the similar parts. There is no where to hook up the 2 wires for the external sensor given there is only one wire going into mirror for temp. The other two extra pins are for bluetooth mic power which I don't have.

Edit: A28 is the same as long as you have the access or double cab in all the trucks. I get power and illumination and compass on that harness it's just not hooked into a console. The issue for both those trying to use the console and the 2012 mirror is not getting the signal from that yellow wire. In the A14 diagram you can see it comes from one pin on that AC amplifier. It is the same part on both the v6 and 4 so what else is different? It has to be the wiring somehow.

It could be that or my theory that it's something about how the onboard computer interprets the signal. I have nothing to base this on but a hunch.

Anything is game now but I would think the temp circuit out of A14 would have to go through the ECU and it doesn't.

Searching the part yields VIN models starting build in 08/2008 which mean 2009 plus have this different amplifier. Also VINs starting on 9/2011- which means the 2012 started production in September 2011, so unless something major is different I would say; no 2012 have the same part.

Starting to think its ECU related here, but not giving up yet.

Just an aside. Some time ago I contacted Mito Corp who sells a lot of Gentex mirrors for Gentex. I asked them if Gentex is planning on putting out a mirror as a kit with homelink, compass, temp, backup video and with the sensor (like they do for all their mirrors with a temp display) just like on the 2012 Tacoma. I even provided a picture of the 2012 mirror and it's display.

Their response is that Gentex does not plan to make such a mirror available for public sale because most cars already have a temperature display outside of the mirror.

None of the circuitry passes through the ECU according to the wiring diagrams. I'm sort of confused as to how it could be ECU related. The A/C amplifier handles all of the temperature reading. My only thought is that the 2012 Mirror is looking for a different voltage range (analog) or sinewave(digital) for temp.

Yeah looking at it again this is what I'm hoping. Given the wires are the same and the AC amp is the same; I really can't fathom what is creating a different output. Didn't someone say that there is no output on the yellow wire at A14 for the 4's?

It is true that most cars have temp, but it's displayed in the actual speedo cluster. My rental impala and my gf's c300 it is that way. Only the compass in the mirror. Toyota is really behind the curve on something so simple. This all seems so complicated having a custom build mirror just to read this magical 1 signal output.

More and more I think this is true. After a search of the Toyota Canada website looking at every model they have, I could not find one other vehicle where they offered a mirror with homelink, backup video, temp and compass.

Looked at Tundra, Sequioa, 4 Runner, FJ Cruiser, Highlander, Venza, Rav 4, Sienna..... and they all had outside temperature listed under instrumentation (also included on this list was your odometer, water temp, etc). Some vehicles had a rear mirror with a backup camera and compass but not listed with a backup camera, temp and compass.

Did not look at the US site or if the USA models differed but I highly doubt it.

Hey guys what was the conclusion? I am getting a 2013 Reg cab and wanted to know if I could install an overhead temp/sensor console like I did on my sr5.

My conclusion was to get a Gentex rear view that has auto-dimming/homelink/map light/compass/temp functions in amber. I had started the acquire ovh console bit and looking at modding the headliner for my reg cab but took the rr view mirror method instead. IIRC, Gentex 341 is the discontinued model. I got another one recently from the mirror guy on here for my 03 Mazda P5 that has amber lighting to add features there and ditch the garage door opener. Might get lucky talking to the mirror dude.......

    This one............

I'm thinking more of a mirror type thing but they are so expensive!

If Bob can find you a Gentex 341 it'd be a little better on pricing since it is older model and does not have camera display. IIRC mine was less than $175 and that included the wiring kit & shipping.
