    Hello all,

I've been considering a Tacoma for the last few years, and with the new 2016 arrivals, I'm impressed with the new design and a improved interior with a touch screen, back up camera, heated seats etc.

I've considered a full size truck, although I don't tow or haul anything and would rarely ever require the space, so I've basically ruled out a full size truck. Although the starting price for a Tacoma TRD offroad is around 38k, going to the limited being 44k plus tax. Very hard to not look at the tundra or other full size trucks with many more options. (I guess we don't buy Toyotas for options though eh) I would either get the offroad or the limited.

After doing some homework what the truck, and reading some reviews I've read some of the pros and cons being

    Pros:
Refined V6 engine with available manual transmission; excellent off-road ability; responsive touchscreen interface; extensive list of options; peerless resale value.

    Cons:
Low driver seat with no height adjustment; steering wheel's minimal telescoping range; unimpressive V6 acceleration times.

    From: http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tacoma/2016/review/

Can anyone confirm if the above listed cons, if you find them a major issue or slightly annoying? (I will be test driving the limited and off-road shortly) I've also read that rust was an issue and notorious issue with Tacoma's...not sure if that is still considered an issue with the 2016? I've read some posts with some recent Tacoma years with rust. I've also read a few posts about the transmission hunting for gears, and it slipping.

Would it be best to wait a few years to get all these "Problems" sorted out? Common sense tells me buying a 1st generation vehicle is usually never a good idea as it seems people have lots of complaints and Toyota usually sorts out a few issues.

Has 38k + plus tax for the offroad and 44k + tax for the limited always been a standard price for Toyota in Canada? (Manitoba) or does our low dollar impact the price? From what I read Toyota doesn't have much room for negotiation on price, is this true?

    Thanks for the input!!

That pricing is right and anything rust wise is fixed by toyota. Honestly there isn't much wrong with the trucks so they have to nitpick at every little thing.
The difference between the offroad and limited are pretty severe so if all you want from the offroad is traction control and a locker then get it after the fact from arb. You will be much happier.

How much offroading might you do?

Anything rust wise has been fixed by Toyota??? Do you have dates and proof they fixed the Frame Rust issues? Because my 2015 doesn't have a guarantee of that.

If you take your truck in with rust issues the dealership will fix it and I used to buy under 15 year old tacomas with rusty frames and take them to get either fixed or they would buy me out. Made a lot of easy money cause people would let no name idiots at the dealer say it wasn't their issue.

Well that is great but I'm just letting the OP know that there is no proof that the frames will still not rust out and have to be replaced. And to me never buy a first year of a new Model redesign. To many kinks to be worked out, and honestly Toyota still hasn't worked out all the kinks from the Second Gen model years of 2005 to 2015. Just look through the 3rd Gen section OP with a lot of the issues alraedy.

    Thanks for the reply's.

I am in to hunting, which requires me to bring a vehicle in the field, fishing near the riverbank or on the lake to go ice fishing, camping, but also traveling (Not sure how good the off-road or how comfortable it would be for 5-10 hours of driving) I don't do any off-roading for fun, I wont be going mudding or anything. (Or atleast I say that now lol) I shouldn't need a lot of space, although it would be nice to have for travel/camping, that's why I'm looking in to the limited. It really comes down to is the off-road practical if your not buying it strictly to off-road, how rough is it on the road, comfortable seating etc. I think off-road is a great truck for living in the city, easy to park etc.

The rust issue is still a slight concern, as I heard rumors of the issue being fixed, but as posted above lots say it hasn't been or proof at least of it. I've looked in to the Toyota warranty also, the platinum 84 months 160k km looks good, but for the extra $3500 is warranty really worth it on Toyota?

Sorry to derail but my 87 Toyota pickup rusted at the box Toyota and diamond coat would and didn't do a thing about it because it didn't rust completely through in the allocated factory warranty and diamond coat wouldn't honour the warranty because technically their liquids inhibitor couldn't penetrate the seam, but they took my money when I bought their product crooks my 97 still has a good frame knock on steel I mean wood steel might be rusted

If you aren't sure. Buy something else! It's a big investment and if you aren't sure then take the time to research.

Depends on you... sometimes I wish I had a full size like a Tundra, then I drive to Toronto for work and curse my Tacoma trying to find a parking spot.

I'm loving my 2016 Tacoma. I went for the Sport, wanted the scoop, and also wanted to keep it under $40k. No issues with the driver's seat, and I'm just under 5'5". It's comfortable and easy to drive. Rust? No knowledge of issues, and nothing on mine so far (only 1 mos into it ;).
