Preface: Sorry if this is too specific so feel free to ignore. And yes I know I need to make my own decision like a big boy, but, I'm here for some friendly input if you have any.

Basically I like everything about the Off-Road except that I can't get it in manual. I much prefer driving manual. I just like the way it responds, it's more fun for me, i can engine break, climbing/descending feels better, I think it's a better long term investment.

I tested the Off-Road and the trans just felt bad. Maybe I just don't know how to drive an auto but it seemed so slow to shift. I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I need to get up and go, step on the gas, and then wait that extra second for it to find the gear. I've since read that it takes a little while for it to 'learn' but still it did not feel good and I have a hard time believing it will eventually.

Yet, I really like the added capabilities of the Off-Road and much prefer the more rugged appearance.

What do you think? Is the M/T that bad? should I just get used to it? Or buy the Sport which I feel provides less for the money and kind of dislike the look.

Why not get an off-road double cab manual? That's what I did and the truck rocks!

The TRD Off-road doesn't come in a manual anymore?? I thought it did?

C'mon Toyota, don't do this to us....

Anyway if that's true, I'd get the manual in the base model SR 4x4 and just build it up myself. But I think that limits you to the 4 banger.

That's lame, and a little weird that they offer the manual only in the double cab. I always figured the double cab appealed more to those with families that are more likely to want the auto.

All the more reason I'm happy I found my first gen, like you I have to have a manual. I get bored with autos.

Canada offers a OR AC manual and the US has OR DCSB manual.

Fucking canada eh? I actually could get to Canada in about 4-5 hours. I'm just not sure the logistics of buying a vehicle there and registering and importing and all that shit.

I'd "build one" online, that'll tell you what's what for every body style. Salesmen will tell you anything to close the deal. They often don't have their facts straight. You can also find out what's in the "pipeline" for your area.
I like my TRD Sport AC 4x4.
Off road has black fender flairs (not my taste), OR doesn't have the neat hood scoop :), OR has the HD shocks (I don't need them), OR does have CRAWL which I would like but can live w/o.
I got the access cab for the long bed, I'll never need room for anybody in the back, I use it for caring stuff. I would have taken a crew cab with a long bed (longer wheel base) if my salesman could not found my TRD Sport 4x4 access cab in Inferno. = I have no info about a manual shift, (again check Toyotatrucks.com online), it was a either one for me. BUT the manual would be more fun. = good luck
