I guess I'm not gonna clean it. Even if there is a fire. That towel better not get in my face cause I drop that motherfu*ker.

The needles in my SR do illuminate when the headlights are on. They are very easy to see; if yours don't illuminate I would definitely take it in, but in the picture they seem to be lit up...

Way ahead of you. Because I had trouble seeing the gauges, I did go to my eye doctor. Eyes checked out, and the prescription is unchanged from a year ago. Told me I didn't need new glasses.

It is the red needles on black and the LCD not being illuminated. If you have the SR model, you would see what I'm talking about.

I guess I will have to take mine in. With my headlights on and with the gauge panel turned up to full brightness, the numbers do light up, but the red needles are not illuminated. The pictures that I shot were taken with an advanced digital SLR. I think the camera enhanced the pictures to look better than they actually are.

I shot two pictures only to show the comparison between truck being off and the truck turned on.

Ah, yeah, something is wrong then. My needles are very bright when illuminated. I'm sure they'll get you fixed up under warranty.

Thanks, I think it would help. I may even show my dealer if there are questions.

too bad that didn't give the option to show the speed in the lcd. I can never tell what the speed the needle is pointing at. seem that since about 2009+ the tick spacing has been harder to read. it use to be on the "5" on the big tick marks but now its only on the "20"'s and they removed the individual tick marks for each mph.

The SR does not have the LCD display which is the main reason I am curious if the SR5/TRD/LTD instrument panel could be swapped into the SR and the LCD function properly.

Just a quick follow up. At night, my instrument dash cluster and red indicator needles are very bright. So there is nothing wrong with my gauges. I seldom drive at night. Day driving, I couldn't see the illuminated needles.

I agree with Old one, the instrument cluster is hard to see during day light driving. It should illuminate without having to turn your lights on(like the LEDs). I have a 2016 off road package and I have to really look to see my speed. The gray color of the speedo and tach blend in. Hope there is a easy fix for it

I found a fix. I took my SR to the dealership and traded it in on an SR5. The SR5 has the white needles on the black display. And as a bonus, it has a digital speedo in the center. Now I don't even need to look at the speedometer. On my SR, during the day, I literally could not see the red needles on the black background.

Most gauge plastic is like that. Just use an instant detailer as a lube and dont use a dry MF towel wet it and ring it out best you can so its just damp. Then give a light spritz on the towel and wipe it down. Shouldnt scratch it

It's not good plastic on the Tacomas. That was one of my biggest gripes on the interior of my 2nd Gen. I spent countless time trying to polish back the plastic when my truck was merely days old. I learned never to touch it. My BMW plastic is strong and hardly scratches.
