Do you have the tow package?
Did you inquire about pinning the thermostat?

They checked out my truck, had it most of the day, he called me and said the fluid was Full. He also said he doesn't want me to pay the full $130 for the fluid check so they're going to "work something out for me" when I get in there. He said the software was all up to date and nothing needed to be changed on the truck. Welp....back to square one

I have the towing package and had the same problem. Took to dealer and they found the transmission was 1.5 quarts low on fluid. When I described the slip problem going from reverse to drive the technician said its a know problem. After driving for 2 weeks problem is fixed.

I took mine in for the 5000 mile got the same old "the computer didn't tell us to check the fluid" bullshit. I notice it more when it is sort of cold than when it is really cold. When it was freezing here in December and January I didn't notice as often but when it is in like the 30s low 40s I see it more often. I also am noticing the surging on hills. Almost acts like it is starving for fuel. My question is if you follow the link to check it yourself could that throw some kind of flag in the ECU or that they would see next time they connect the computer up to it. That would be just my luck... Also what is the fluid I need to get, do I have to get it from the dealer?

WS Fluid is what they use, it's a Toyota fluid. Not sure the Dealer is the ONLY place to get it but I think it is where most people get it.

If it were me, I would try to find another dealer who will listen to your description of issues with the transmission, then ask them if they will actually check the fluid for you regardless of the computer. They may make you leave the vehicle overnight so they can "replicate" the issue. This is where you roll the dice because often times they cannot replicate it.

Finally had a chance to get mine in. I had them check it as part of the 5k service and I explained the issue and that there was a consensus that the tranny level was low from the factory. No push back from the dealer.

Checked and found to be .5 low

Do you need to know, or care?
And if you do leave it overnight, park it yourself in a way that will FORCE them to back it out and go to drive so they can feel the slip. That's what I did when I took it to the dealer for the same issue. From my experience, Park to Drive does not have the same slippage as Reverse to Drive.

I have the tow package but can't decide 1) If my truck even has an issue & 2) If I want to go through all the trouble of fighting with the dealer for them to check fluid. I haven't really noticed any symptoms except when engine is cold and I shift into D or R the RPMs surge up then drop down and then I can drive, no real delay though. However, If I let me foot off the brake to quickly the truck kinda jumps forward. Does this sound like the low ATF problem?

My engine does this too in reverse or drive...like when pulling into a parking spot or backing out of one... it is random but usually when vehicle is cold.
