    Hello fellow TWs.

I turned the traction control.off on my truck today- hold the trac button down for 3-5 seconds until light says trac off on dashboard (auto LSD should not be lit.)

I noticed off several starts the truck was far more responsive and it broke tires loose right away, instead of that sort of lag feel a lot of us were complaining about.

It makes sense as the trac control on these rigs modulates brakes and cuts throttle. I'm willing to bet they have it programed to go easy on the starts to tame the 278HP.

    Curious to others experiences?

***disclaimer (sad I have to do this)
I am not complaining nor have I actually complained about the way these trucks run. Sure it's a little boggy off the line, but it doesn't bother me. I love my 16, but I know others have complained, some to the point of trading it back in before 1k miles. I am posting this purely to share information and hear from others who know more than I do. ***

    Stay calm.and taco on.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Not sure why some have to try and demean others for using a forum for it's intended purpose.

For the record. I was not complaining about the truck, I bought it to be a truck
Not a racecar. But sometimes I like to have fun, and stumbled across this find.

You must have a very shitty microwave, as you CAN actually make toast in a microwave. Look it up.

Foot in mouth? I'd suggest mouthwash.

I agree, there is definitely something going on with the throttle on these trucks. It feels like you are driving an ocean liner with the horrible throttle response down low. Once you get the rpms up to 4000, though, this truck will really move out. I have a manual by the way.

I wonder if disabling traction control also disables the "Nonlinear Throttle Control"? Might explain a difference in feel if you also get that improved feeling without breaking the tires loose...

So what we want is a truck body, a bugatti engine, and the mpg of a prius. Sorry pal, aint gonna happen. If you want a truck to jump off the line find an old Ford Lightning. If you want good mpg in a truck, you have it now. The rear of these trucks are fairly light, so if you disable traction control, light up the tires, be careful because it could get away from you real quick, next thing you know you are trying to tell the insurance company how your truck ended up in the ditch.

I knew someone was going to go all anti solution taco forum flame game on me.

If you read above I have never once complaining personally about this truck. I find the 16 to be a spectacular truck. However I know people are complaining big time over the slower start offs. This is a potential solution, that also has applicable use. When the truck is off road on an incline or a steep hill on road, sometimes (manual truck) it's a little bogged out on the starts. Turning trac off may limit that and allow the truck to start off with a trailer better.

What do I know? I'm a Bugatti engine wanting truck bodied Prius driver.

Interesting observation OP. I'll have to try this. BTW, my father recently bought a new 4Runner and has similar throttle mapping. I'll pass this on to him as well.

It boggles my mind why people would go out of their way to denigrate someone on an anonymous message board when people post things that they don't agree with.

Take the high road, my friend, and move along the next time.

I really doubt Toyota has the truck programmed to let traction control interfere with acceleration. If the tires are slipping, yes, but under normal circumstances, no way.

Do you need to know, or care?
Well I don't know if I know more than you, but my experience is if I want it to go, give it a lot of throttle. If any tire tries to break loose, the Trac takes control and cuts power and applies the break to stop any spinning. I notice it more when trying to merge into traffic from a stop. Making a right hand turn onto a busy road from standstill, if a tire spins at all, the truck just bogs down. I didn't notice it as much in my Gen 2, but it was just a learning experience for me in the Gen 3 and now I know what to expect, so I'm better prepared for it and adjust my driving accordingly. Personally, I don't think they are trying to tame the H.P., it's more about trying to keep the tires from spinning.

A lot of new truck owners here.

I read in another thread why the TRD Pro doesn't have an upgraded performance engine....

    sigh.....
