I also ordered some Noico sound deadener. Hoping to make my truck as quiet inside as possible for the trip! Last year was absolutely hell driving.

Check this out, this is really how to "soundproof".
    https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

    Crom has been doing this
    Sound Proof the Interior
Sound proof back doors, Nov 2015
Sound proof back pass door, Nov 2015
Sound proof front passenger door, Feb 2016
Sound proof drivers door, Feb 2016
Sound proof the roof, ceiling, Mar 2016
Sound proof project complete part list and prices, Mar 2016
Sound proof 1/2 back wall and "C" pillar, Mar 2016
I'm also looking to do it as well. Crom has found some less expensive stuff that is still good. Links at the bottom of his build.

I won't be going that insane on quieting the cabin. I rarely drive the truck but when I do, it really makes me want to question my sanity.

I'll just be using Noico 80 mil deadener on the floor; roof, doors, pillars, and the back wall. If I want to get real frisky, I may pull the dash and do the firewall..

Noico will be going on floor and back wall. I will see how it does, if it's good, I'll get more, if not, I will get the Shok industries stuff. He was talking about doing another GB at the end of April.

That stuff will help. The noico is the same as shok. The closed cell foam and mass loaded vinyl is what will really block road noise and tire hum. I priced out about 400ish to do the whole cab. The sound deadener by itself mainly reduces sheet metal vibrations, any road noise reduction is secondary and not what it is made for.

So what else should I add on top of the deadener?

The Noico 80 is actually thicker than the Shok stuff. And cheaper

Noico, dynamat, shokmat, raamat, it is all butyl based which is designed to turn vibrations into heat, in effect dampening vibrations from surfaces, ie sheet metal. This is a large source of noise in a vehicle. But its not great at blocking sound. The best thing for blocking sound is lead sheets, but that is not practical for vehicle application. Next best is mass loaded vinyl. It will block sound, but must be "decoupled" from the sheet metal. Thats what the closed cell foam is for. Read the link from sound deadener showdown, it explains it all in more detail. At the bottom of croms build page are the links to Amazon of what to buy, not exact quantities mind you, but the materials you need at the best prices. I have been researching this myself for awhile now. But most places that sell this stuff either sell sub par stuff or charge too much. Example dynamat, yeah it's good stuff but overpriced. Noico is the same, and you can get most of that stuff in different thicknesses.

Shok Deadener is actually 80mill without using a thick foil like the others. The foil servers no purpose at all in dampening or reducing noise and thus this is why shok only has a 1mm foil

That site gives a full materials list for Tacomas.. Not looking to spend $600 on this little project.

Noico will suffice and then Shok for the rest of the stuff.

Gotcha! I was looking in the NVX stuff and was looking at each different thickness, the Noico came to be thicker but I guess my calculations were wrong.. Oops

I know we talked today but I really got to thinking about this project and said shit, I'll just get a little and see where it puts me

Hey, no worries mate. SHok generally under rates or "conservatively" rates all their products either way.
Shok deadener is one of the nicest to work with, Super sticky and over all a solid product. I know we talked today but either way, if you choose SHok ill gladly assist you and if you don't, well ill still help where i can

This is one area where I would still prefer OEM. You definitely got your money's worth and you know the next one will probably do the same. If not, the warranty should cover you.

Edit: If you're not concerned about OEM, I don't know the exact specs on your truck, but Amazon has a drop-in replacement for $94: http://www.amazon.com/TYC-1755-Plas...tor&refinements=p_n_condition-type:6461716011

Picked up that DCLB exhaust. Already cut the tailpipe section off it.. :woot:

The guy was cool. Had a '10 DCLB with a subtle lift and 33s. He would like to get out and whee sometime too. Forgot to get a picture of his truck though.
