That's DFCO - deceleration fuel cutoff, it's a fuel-saving feature common in newer vehicles. The engine stutters because it's getting no fuel on deceleration. It's actually helping you slow down without using the brakes, called compression braking. When the RPM gets down to a certain point, the fuel injectors will come back on and keep the engine running. It won't stall. Well, not because of DFCO.

My 2.7 automatic does the same thing, it's pretty effective at slowing the truck.

Not that I am aware of. Again, this is the way the truck was designed -- DFCO does cause a few vibrations on deceleration, and also helps to safe fuel on deceleration and also aid the brakes a bit. If the vibration is excessive in your truck, you might have it checked out by a reputable mechanic.

I don't know. Has anything else changed? Transmission service, added/topped off fluid, or something else? Does the throttle body or mass airflow sensor need cleaning? What's the condition of the truck and engine?

Also DFCO does not work until the engine is near full temperature. So maybe you were doing short trips before and engine staying cold -- but now you do longer trips or have warmer outside temps, and getting the engine fully warmed up?

Also, how bad is the vibration? Does it vibrate every time on deceleration? Can you get a friend to ride with you and record a video, put it on Youtube and link it here?

Mine just started doing this, 2009 2.7 4x4 5speed. Started out of the blue, upon start it feels like the truck wants to die, after start it idles at 500 roughly. No power loss tho when driving, everything seems just fine when not idling. Truck has 62k on it

I am gonna say nope to this, doesn't match op description

    what DOES, is dirty MAF

I suggest clean MAF with 1/2 can of MAF spray, then reset ecu, and see how it goes for a tank of gas

After a lot of research most of answers came back iac motor. Can't not buy separate from throttle body so I purchased after market throttle body / iac mother for $104.00 not $600.00 from Toyota .But just for the hell of it I sprayed throttle body again ,still looked a little gummed up. That cleaning seemed to clear up problem .Idles 100% better

    get the MAF cleaned too.

my 4runner suddenly ran like crap out of the blue one foggy day (stalling when coming to a stop), and then for a month was acting like a turd.
    cleaned maf, problem erased completely.
