I have a 2000 Pre-Runner and need to get new head lights. Any suggestions? Should I keep the stock clear look or do Black lenses and side markers? Also, anyone have any comments on the projector head lights for that model, do they look stupid when installed or are they worth looking into? Here are some pictures of what i'm thinking about, just need help deciding.

The first 3 pics, would all be considered 'illegal' options.

Automobile law states that you must have an amber reflector on the front of your vehicle.

You could technically get a ticket, but all depends on the kind of officers in your town. Its something they usually don't pay attention, unless you do something to provoke them.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Most headlight laws are set at the state DMV level. So you should check with your state DMV for any rules that are particular to your state (I didn't see any reference to where you live?).

Very important. Make sure your headlight part is DOT approved: Department of Transportation. Yeah, they set the federal guidelines/standards for automobile manufacturers. Avoid products that lack this approval.

That said.. I like the smoke lens ones with halogens. Wow! But,mine are stock.. guess I'm too cheap to change them. After all the stock setup is pretty bright and looks aren't as important to me as functional enhancements to my rig. Anyway, sounds like you need to replace yours anyway.. so go wild.

Dude, you said from the front. So I'm asking you where can you see a reflector from the front. The law states that you have to have 2 visible reflectors viewable from the side of the vehicle both at the front and the back.

The two pictures you posted showed Tacomas from the front/side.

Thanks for the advice, think i'm gonna get the smoked ones, my Pre-Runner is green and just bought some parts to change the front end a little, replacing all of the chrome parts with black so it should look good. As far as them being illegal, i'm not too worried about that since I don't drive like a maniac and draw attention to myself. I'll post pics when I switch them out and let you guys see how it looks.

Yes, the first 3 are not DOT approved. But, that's nothing to worry about unless you live in a state that requires inspections.

I will use my real examples.

Reflector from the side (notice it lights up with flash):

This image, you can barely see the side reflector, if you have ever taken them off the truck or shined a light at the front. You will notice that it will not light up and the angles of the reflector weren't designed to be seen from the front:
