    So,
I went to open the rear window in my 5 day old truck yesterday and the the stationary part of the latch fell off. I looked and saw it had a bit of sticky tape holding it on.
Very satisfied with the truck so far, but what a terrible crappy design on a ($46,000 with taxes) truck!!!

Looks like it hasn't changed in years and others have reported same issue.

Anyway, no big deal overall. I go to the dealer and they look and say 2 small screws are missing and that's probably why it came off. I say" okay can you put 2 screws in whilst I'm here then". Well, apparently not - can you believe they are going to order and replace the whole rear window assembly!
With the part, shipping and fitting, we have got to be looking at $6-800??? For the sake of $0.10 worth of screws.
Is it me, or does this appear nuts?

Under warranty, what's the big deal? Fix it. My 2014 has had a dead battery and a bad door rattle. Did I post about it? No, normal issues, all fixed free.

Panties in a loop? No nuts in panties.

Exactly. As I said NO BIG DEAL!
The crazy part is spending all that time and money when they could pop in 2 screws.
Just bantering, no need for the attitude pal!
Apologies I thought the forum was to discuss everyday Tacoma related things.
No wonder people are put off forums, when seasoned members attack everything someone says.

It won´t cost Toyota that much. However, it does seem a little overkill, but hey, its warranty, let them do it.

Meh...they charge it back to Toyota Corp. Government has been overcharging for nuts and bolts for decades....so the practice is nothing new.

I go in Friday for my first service. Two months ago when I was under the truck putting on my steps I noticed a nut missing from what I think is a clamp or something for the break cable. I dunno....not a car guy. It's got four screws and three nuts. We shall see if they say that's "normal"

Did you read the post before blasting the OP???

I don't see any complaints. Just wondering why Toyota deemed it nessesary to replace a whole window assembly if all that was needed to fix it were 2 screws.

I would probably just source the screws myself.

Problem is you can't just buy certain screws or clips some times. They come as an entire assembly. That's how that latch is. This kinda stuff happens all the time with auto manufacturers. Just how it is though

Toyota made bucks off the sale of the truck, Now dealer needs to pay rent too. Replacing 2 screws doesn't pay for the paperwork to write it up. New window will probably net the Dealer a few hundred bucks in profit.

Toyota's assembly just didn't fail you, it also failed the dealer who bought the truck before you. It's too bad for so much waste for 2 screws, buts thats how the game is played. Customer didn't design the playing field they just have to play on it. You want the truck you paid for, the dealer wants to sell you the truck he paid for, and Toyota wants to sell the truck they build. No one wants these problems.

Toyota's reputation is taking a hit because the supplier screwed up, their QC failed and Toyotas fit and finish dept didn't catch it. Sending the window back will correct these problems but it's going to cost Toyota several thousand dollars to get the issue fully resolved.

Toyota is governed by its ISO certification and that means documenting everything and making improvements to correct problems. Strangled by its own internal processes.

What if it's just not your truck but all 30,000 or so they should have made by now? I haven't even opened my back window yet so I will now have to check for missing screws.
