3:58 gears in 99' 3rz 5 spd standard cab

Wow. When u say topping out are u bouncing off the rev limiter??

If that the case it sounds like the previous owner put a hellishly high ratio, like 5.71 or something. Best example I can give is that I recently put 5.29 ratio in my 04 3RZ manual tranny. And on 35's I tach 3k in 5th gear going 70mph. Just to clarify I have a Dakota digital recalibrater installed

 

I doubt you have 3.58s still, I have 3.58s with a 3RZ manual and 31.5s and I can barely keep 60mph up a hill. You probably do have an easier ratio but perhaps not a super high one, maybe a 4.30 or a 4.56. Either way your speedo is probably reading a bit low as well from all the changes.
