Restoring headlights?

My headlights are oxodidized and the bhlm I recently did really shows it.

I tried using the turtlewax headlight restore kit which includes a compound and a step wet sand kit, this helped some but not a lot and left me with some very small scratches on the lenses from the sanding.

I was thinking of doing the wet sand again and really focusing on the finer grit, and also applying the compound with my DA polisher to get a little more cutting.

Any other suggestions on what I can do?

 

Never used it myself, but this gets talked about on a lot of forums. Might be just what you need to mask remaining swirls and seal them up.

Meguires headlight restoration kit worked wonders for me!

 

Megs also sells a headlight protectant (UV blocker to prevent hazing after restoration). After repair, you're gonna need to apply something to prevent a rapid return to a hazed state. Id go with the Megs stuff or 303 protectant. Megs goes on just like suntan lotion. The 303 is like a spray wax.

 

Skip the 303 protectant and get a coating. 303 is a great product but doesn't like rain. Optimum makes some good stuff. I am loving Gloss Coat.

3m kit with some success on an the wife's cavalier, but the results really didn't last that long, maybe 6 months and I had to do it again. I ended up just buying some new assemblies off ebay after they clouded again the 3rd time rather than polish again.

 

How is this holding up over time?

 

It does pretty good. I haven't done it to mine yet, but have to another set of lights for a friend.
