Did you just discover GooGone? That stuff has saved me so many times. Think it all began with my original 1990 Toyota Pickup and the hideous decals covering the entire sides. Those HAD to come off!

 

I'm a big fan of GooGone! Got new bedside decals coming in soon and will be putting it to work. Use Goof Off when you really want to show sticky stuff who's boss and you don't care about the finish of what you're working on. If you leave it on there long enough it will actually remove your paint too! I've always had some at the ready and been using it for almost 20 years.

I imagine you've posted this somewhere in your thread, but I couldn't find it. Have you been pleased with the dynabeads? I have had a terrible time trying to keep my tires balanced. It seems like I lose a wheel weight every time I get off-road, so I'm considering dynabeads as a possible solution for my next set of tires.

 

So the tire shop spilled some beads when transfering the Toyo tire to one of my wheels. It's mounted on the passenger rear. I noticed on four separate occasions, that, that tire would be out of balance during interstate travel. That f'ing sucks!

I ordered up some new beads.

I f'ing hate leaving things to chance. My original plan was to vacuum out whatever beads were in there and pour in 8oz new, but mounting / dismounting tire is a lot more work than I was looking for on a Sunday. So I just estimated how much was missing and prayed and poured. If I have further issues, I'll have a shop and have them take the rubber back off and I'll be more precise about what goes back in.

 

Yes they are one of my favorite mods. I can highly recommend them. There are only a few pain points that I have found.

1. Cost, kind of expensive for what they are, but I trust the company and their product.
   
2. Transferring tires from one wheel to another, beads can be spilled, happened to one of my tires by the tire shop.
   
3. I am speculating here, but If you perform emergency tire repair with a tire plug, it's possible for some of the beads to become trapped in rubber cement. It may affect the beads in another way, but for now it's an unknown.

For me the positives far outweigh the negatives and I like them a lot.

If you're thinking of getting them, read the literature on them. Beads are ceramic and will last the life of the tire and beyond.

This next bit of work was for two purposes.

1. I wanted to advance my will in the war on dust and continue to seal dust out.
2. I wanted to recover the space that was in this bin. I haven't been in there in a few years. I only kept an old tarp in there.

I pulled the bin out, this is the one on the driver side in the rear of the bed.

There were some holes on the top I never knew about!


I washed it with soap and water / rubbing alcohol and put some Gorilla tape on the outside and inside holes.

Inside holes all sealed up.


Sillycone treatment.


Here it is, secured back into its home.


And finally, my backup Viair 90P air compressor tucked into the space.


Hooray for more truck real estate!

I performed some maintenance on the fire extinguisher (more on this later), and everything got put back into it's place.

 

I'm anxious to hear about your dustproofing results. I was never able to keep dust out when I had the Flippac and I had silicone and weather stripping everywhere.

 

I hear you. It's a struggle. I am definitely winning the war at this point, four years into it now. My last trip in Death Valley proved that much to me. I'm pleased with all the counter measures I've taken thus far. And will continue to improve whenever and wherever possible. I read an old thread on ExPo regarding fire extinguishers and two posts from former Firefighters stood out and made me think about my vehicle mounted fire extinguisher.

The take away for me was with dry chem, one should maintenance the powder inside on regular intervals by rolling them on their side and inverting them while tapping them. The issue was that the dry chem dust can become compacted from repeated vehicle vibrations. And if this happens and when you go to use it, it may not work as intended.

I found a rubber mallet worked great!

 

Where did you mount yours Crom?

 

Running the 4 AWG for the air compressor through the firewall and to the back of the cab isn't too difficult, but it's tedious. There are five (5) trim panels that need to be removed to route the cable properly and drivers seat belt bolt has to come out.

Here is how I did my work:

I found a factory hole with rubber grommet that I modified with a razor blade to pass the 4AWG wire through.

Here it is coming through the firewall. I wrapped it in 1/2" split loom.

down the firewall and onto the floor. I wrap the loom with some red vinyl electrical tape.


Ran into wire management tray, front door.

And finally to the back of the cab.

 

For the air compressor ground, I found an unused factory 5/16" hole and took advantage of that.

I wire wheeled it to get the paint off, then used some left over M6 bolt and nut. Lol when the wire wheel got a way from me and ripped up the foam.


And here it is with the mass loaded vinyl reinstalled. I also coated the ground terminal and bolt with a thin layer of dielectric grease.

 

I mounted this mini ANL fuse holder to the plate.

 

Just saw the post above with you extinguisher mount.

 

And finally mounted the air compressor into its new home.



Things I still have left to do...

• Modify ARB wiring harness
• Terminate wiring
  
• Extend airline to back of the truck
• Mount 80 amp relay and circuit breaker in engine room.
• Install push button switch into dash.

 

As usual: thorough, considered, and effective. When I start to jones for a mod day, I just pick a Crom project and have a go. Should keep me busy for quite a while. Thanks buddy!

 

for 255/80/17 like we have, is the dual compressor overkill? would a single work because it fits under my hood in a much better way than a dual does. Not to mention price also.
