Hello, this is my first post in this forum but I've been reading it since a couple of months ago cause I've been looking for a Tacoma. I want to buy either a 1st gen or a 2nd gen.

I saw one on a local website, a 2nd gen 4wd with a 4-cyl engine, manual transmission, at a very good price. I have a question regarding to the transmission, and how these 4wd work. In the pictures, I can only see one stick (I drove a 1st gen two weeks ago and it has two sticks).

Are these second gen trucks, 4wd all the time?

BTW: It has the TRD sticker on the side, I've seen not all of them have one

    Thanks!

There is a switch on the dash to engage 4 wheel drive and no more J Shifter.

    Thanks for your reply.
Is this kind of switch easy to fix when it fails? I'm thinking it is electronic.

Yes its electronic, I don't know of failures at the switch, I think the only issues are mainly underneath at the actuator.
