    Hi all,

Maybe you can help me. I just installed and subsequently removed a Gentex 536 mirror from my (new to me) 2008 Tacoma. I really wanted a Homelink/autodim mirror vs the manual stocker.

Initial install went fine and the mirror was programmed without issue. However, after 5 min on the road, suddenly I had TPMS flashing/brake light on/MIL/CEL on/ABS on. After digging into it I discovered that the 10A IGN1 #2 fuse was blown. I replaced it and disconnected the connector at the mirror. All the dash lights went off except the MIL.

I drove the rest of the way with that light on. Before lunch, I removed the harness completely from the truck but as soon as I drove it the above happened again, fuse blown and lights on. No PW, heater blower, etc.

I went to Oreillys at lunch, replaced the fuse and the scanner pulled up a P0500. Since then I drove around for 30 min and no more incidents of the lights coming on but the code is there to stay.

Any ideas of what to test next? Speedo is working fine and the truck seems to shift and drive fine.

Also, with regard to the mirror, I removed the harness and checked for shorts. None found. I had it connected as follows:
IGN + to light green wire for overhead display.
    +12V to dome light
    Gnd to dome light ground.

I have not checked the mirror itself but it was disconnected during the second incident.

Also, I was not able to try and reset the code. The new OBD tools at Oreilly have that feature locked out. I have a dashcommand setup for my GM Suburban that I will try and use tonight.

Quick update: The ECM must have reset the code after a couple of drive cycles. That's a good thing. What I can't figure out is how the mirror overloaded that circuit. I am going to dig into it again tonight.

Does anyone have a good diagram of the wiring in the overhead console for a 2008?

Edit: The mirror wasn't the problem. The issue is that the harness connector that plugs into the mirror was assembled in a very shoddy way. I would post a pic that would make you guys cringe. The connector had 1/4 of bare wire visible (x3) with the three wires pulled together by the heat shrink tubing. with some movement, the wires would touch. I got a good deal on the mirror and the seller is making some amends including a new harness. We should be whole after I install the new harness.
