TRD Electric Locker mechanism protection?

    Hey guys, I'm getting my (new to me) '04 Tacoma back from the dealer next week, eager to hit the trails.

    I've been reading on here a bit about how the e-locker is susceptible to failure from moisture and blunt trauma...is there any mod (DIY or aftermarket) out there for protecting the actuator that sits on the outside of the differential? Particularly worried about moisture causing it to be unreliable.

    Check the sponsors section. Just about everyone makes a skid plate /guard for it. All-Pro, Inchworm are a couple places that sell them. Very easy to make one yourself too. I made one years ago out of some scrap laying around.

    3 inch lift. bluetooth stereo. blue transparent skulls shift knobs
    First things first, paint it! That's what is protecting your truck to begin with. I recommend using single stage paints with pour-your-own spray bottles.

    Then any electrical connection that looks like it can be exposed to a puddle can be sealed with clear silicone. Just get a tube and inject it into the back of the connector to seal it.

    Also, you can use di-electric grease on the actual terminals themselves to not only protect them from moisture in the air, but also from stuff like vibration and excessive heat (di-electric grease has great thermal transferring properties).

    Finally, relocate your differential's breather tube. There are several writeups on this site on what im talking about.
